Paper and Pen

Paper and Pen

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

I don't like people...

"

Paper and pen,

How I love what you bring:

A clean sheet of new beginnings.

Not like these people

Who bring heart racing grief,

The anxiety and fear,

The infuriating discomfort.

Paper and pen,

How I love your silence.

You listen to my every word.

Not like these people

Who talk only of themselves,

Their pain and their pleasure

The “Me! Me! Me!” song that I hate.

Paper and pen,

How I love your devotion.

You’re always nearby when I call.

Not like these people

Whose presence is sporadic,

Making appearances when I’m already down,

Laughing as they kick me repeatedly.

Paper and pen,

I’m so glad we're friends.

There’s no way you would ever desert me.

This is the most strongly I've ever related to one of your works...sometimes they feel like my only friends, and even though they are perpetually silent, they never question or judge you as people do...past experiences, and one current one, with people have made me pretty cynical, I'm not gonna lie, so it was easy for me to get immersed in the bitterness of this one...even though you've dubbed it a random rant, there is still no shortage of excellent poetry in it...for a naturally-talented poet, I don't think there is such a thing as a random rant...one's talent will inevitably come through no matter how random they may be feeling, and you certainly apply to that scenario...love this one :)

Delightful. Every stanza speaks of a relatable realization. Love the way you've written in, so methodical, so precise. Most precious is the relationship thats ever so splendidly described and compared in here.

No doubt, they are best friend of every writer. I would also like to include my computer.

thank you for reading :D
Rather than seeing words, however much meaning they hold, thrown down in any old sentence (like this one),
I'd like to see in your poetry a release of vitality and power through delicately picked words, sounds or letters; a startling, exhilerating, unveiling of irresistable emotion sincerely laid as on a velvet pillow inside the thankful minds of your readers. I say this because i believe your poems show great promise ;)
