Paper and Pen

Paper and Pen

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

I don't like people...

"

Paper and pen,

How I love what you bring:

A clean sheet of new beginnings.

Not like these people

Who bring heart racing grief,

The anxiety and fear,

The infuriating discomfort.

Paper and pen,

How I love your silence.

You listen to my every word.

Not like these people

Who talk only of themselves,

Their pain and their pleasure

The “Me! Me! Me!” song that I hate.

Paper and pen,

How I love your devotion.

You’re always nearby when I call.

Not like these people

Whose presence is sporadic,

Making appearances when I’m already down,

Laughing as they kick me repeatedly.

Paper and pen,

I’m so glad we're friends.

There’s no way you would ever desert me.

A great piece of writing. I am sure that every poet or writer will be able to relate to this poem as we,as writers find solace at the times of worry, only by penning down our feelings.

And if this was written randomly, then you must be excellent while writing after giving some thought. Great work!!!

Welcome :)
Wow, I could really relate to this. I am by no mean's a 'people person', so writing is fortunately my best friend. Paper and pens are always there to help me vent and bring me back to my senses. I get anxiety around people, but I prefer being by myself most of the time, so I can think a lot easier and be creative. Paper and pens certainly bring out the best and the worst in me...but who am I to complain when the result is one which I cannot complain with since it is helping me grow as a person?

Being a confirmed curmudgeon I empathize with the speakers assessment of humanity. Wrong-headed as we both may be.
I like the form of this poem although I would wish for a stronger rhythm.

Lol Yes mam I will definitely watch out for that! :P
Jesus is the only one that doesn't
leave me and understands me but I am thankful
that he's blessed me with the gift to write we mustn't
bottle all of it up it helps when we write helps me Balance
my thoughts where not millions are spinning all at once in my head.

I really liked this rant nicely said and
very well understood and the words flow
very nicely.

Thank you for sharing.

You know I wonder how many writer types struggle with this. I myself have "people issues" - I love 'em but I hate 'em too. And I loathe being surrounded by people and the me me me song (that was excellent) - maybe its an introvert thing. This is a fine poem. Found myself nodding in agreement throughout the whole read. Random rants are a cleansing thing.
