Charging Towards Justice

Charging Towards Justice

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

Formally named "The Color That Enraged Him"

"

Psyching himself up,

The matador, he readies,

Preparing for showtime,

His fortune and fame.

His outfit, it glimmers

With an essence of arrogance.

Gizmos and gadgets

Arranged to draw attention.

His hat, it’s underlining

With a flaunting air,

Complimenting his costume,

Adding taste to tenacity.

His body, it’s robust,

Agile and strapping.

He flexes and poses,

Feeding off the crowds ado.

His smile, it broadens

Spreading to a sadistic grin.

He holds out his hand

Introducing his guest of honor.

His subject, he enters,

Begrudgingly by force,

Despising its duties,

Longing for the justice he deserves.

The duo, they begin,

As the flag leaves its case.

The wind makes it dance,

And the animal is released.

The bull, it charges,

Running towards the man,

The one that enrages him

With that color in his hand.

His hooves, they trollop,

Stirring up dust in tornado like swirls.

His nose, it twitches,

Flaring from the anger,

Fuming with anticipation.

His eyes, they flicker,

Glaring at the ripple of the flag.

The finish line, it’s nearing,

Forging a malicious smirk.

The bull, he’s ready

with his horns set to brand.

Your description of the matador is great ... and I'd always thought his dressing ... besides the cape ... may be enraging the bull. Its curious to think the bull may be exhausting himself with rage ... before he is cut down. Nice ...

You are welcome...:).......
Great poem. Loved the way you captured the rusty, angry passion of what it really is. Loved it. Brilliant read.

Technically, mechanically I thought this was well written - both the bull and the toreador focused on the demise of the other - but for the sport I wince a little, maybe a lot. I know its a cultural thing - but it seems brutal. I'm glad you DIDN'T bring the brutality into this one and stayed succinct. Direct. I liked the clipped sentence style. Nicely done/

I've never seen a bull fight but I did read Ernest Hemingway's description of one in The Sun Also Rises. Hemingway was a crazy drunk who shot himself but I like to think he would have liked this poem. At least I did.

The sad part of Bull Fighting. The bull is drugged. It is a art form. Beauty of man against beast. Would be more interesting if the bull was in complete control. Beautiful photo and amazing description. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you :D
I really liked how you set this one up in stanzas, it made it a smooth read. Bull fighting has always been a little sad to me, they are killing the bulls for sport, not food. Kind of like dog fighting or something of the like. Still, I like how you got into the head of the bull in this, enraged by the red cape. Very unique.

It impresses,
It's style being so lovable,
Narration and structure and the idea all so praiseworthy.
