Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia

A Poem by Briana O'Connor
"

The iconic artwork entitled The Scream was inspired by Edward Munch's fear of people, also known as Agoraphobia.

"

The being of beings turns shadowy blue,

As they slowly shatter my solitude.

This haven I’ve found,

So safe and peacefully sound,

Dissipates as travelers pass through,

Spinning my world in color without clue.

The ocean!...It’s darkened,

No longer sparkling.

It’s sprinkled with embers, the backlash of flame.

And the rail!...It’s ablaze thrashing in diversity untame.

The bridge!... It’s crumbling in a rainbow like maze.

Dirt and water mold the outskirts, as pastels linger in a haze.

I scream as I realize there’s no where to fall.

Sky and the ocean become one, painting a sunset to form a wall

Alas, I am floating, but the bridge has not moved.

The people are just staring, as if I am askew.

And I feel my heart racing and my world breaks in two.

I see the sunset smile. It’s laughing at me again.

It seems to know my agony will never come to an end.

There were some very interesting imagery in this piece. I think it was well done, I liked "It’s sprinkled with embers, the backlash of flame. And the rail!...It’s ablaze thrashing in diversity untame. The bridge!... It’s crumbling in a rainbow like maze. Dirt and water mold the outskirts, as pastels linger in a haze."
Those lines were absolutely amazing. Well done Briana.

Wow. Thank you. That is very nice of you to say
You almost make being held within our own minds relentless prison, sound captivating. Perfect sentiments portraying those out of control feelings ...

You welcome, keep going, take care
Like this a lot, you have picked exactly the right version of The Scream to fit the poem ( or the other way round), I like poems about Art, I wrote a poem about Turner ( not a good poem, I have to admit) for me the best of the best...

That is great! it zips along at a fair pace it has rhythm style grace flair and lots of other words I could print here but it is magic, gonna put it in my library and it should be printed up to accompany the painting where it hangs it is equal to that as a work of art, well done Briana :D

your always welcome :)
Your poetry reminds me of lyrics from Siouxsie and The Banshees. Siouxsie wrote a lot of lyrics about madness. This was a great poem.

aha now i know why you sent me that link lol. Thank you for taking the time to read.
Really good poem, trapped in ones own mind and no matter how loud you scream can not escape it. That is what I got from the poem not really sure if it's what you were going for or not, but I enjoyed it.
