Love Isn't

The isn't factor in love

If love were easy,

Simple and carefree

The world would be filled

With everlasting peace.

If love were simple,

Easy and carefree

The world would be filled

With jaunty dancing glee.

If love were carefree

Simple and easy

The world would be filled

With harmonious sweeties.

But love is not easy.

It’s a battle with no end,

Screaming and fighting,

Refusing to bend.

But love is not simple.

It’s complexity to the core,

Cheating and lying,

Promises stuffed in a drawer.

But love is not care-free.

It’s phantom obsession,

Carelessness or abandonment,

Stalkers or unrequited depression.

Love can never be

Easy, simple or carefree,

But with a little compassionate mercy,

And understanding impartiality,

Love can conquer, effectuate and defeat.

Love is hard work, humility, responsibility and sacrifice. With that said, nobody EVER wanted to "fall in" those things. The greatest measure of love is sacrifice...the greater the love; the greater the sacrifice. And that is the message of the cross for Christians..."For God so LOVED the world" and "Greater LOVE hath no man"...In fact, St. Paul wrote an entire chapter on what love is NOT..in 1st Corinthians 13...so I must agree that love is NOT easy. But love never fails and it never hurts. Our expectations and misguided faith may hurt us but NEVER love. Love is eternal and not subject to judgement by the petty emotions of mortals. Love conquers all because God is love. Just my thoughts. I enjoyed the read.

I always enjoy repetition in writing, be it poetry or prose. It was effective how you repeated the theme of "If love were..." and the variations with easy, simple, carefree, well worked.

this is a great poem, I love the pro's and con's of the debate, possibly inspired by your life ? I actually like the last verse very much, I read it over several times as at first it did not appear to flow but suddenly it worked just fine :)

this poem was actually written I was a teenager and had my first heartbreak. It was originally very negative and dark. I added in the more positive aspects and changed some of the words to make it less of a poor me I got my heart broke poem. thank you for taking the time to read and review.

I love this poem and it is true love is not simple and carefree, Though I think the main problem with that is people tend to rush into things and not actually get to know the real person inside, I think if people did not rush love so much it could have the potential to be simple and carefree.

No this was actually an angry poem I wrote in response to all the cheesy romance movies when I got my heart broken. I added in the the beginning and the end and revised the middle this year. I wrote a lot of angry poems when I was a teenager that I've revisited with a more positive attitude in the past year. I found a notebook full of my old poetry and I've rewritten a lot of them and posted them here. Some of them are just too embarrassing to share. lol. thank you for taking the time to read.
