A Reminder to be AliveA Poem by CHWrote this on an evening drive down some Missouri gravel roads.
As I sit here, in this seat with you at my side
I'm reminded of how luck I am to be alive. The windows rolled down, Your hair flying all about, And our singing over the wind as it flutters on by Your eyes clung to the rolling hills and thick dark forests As mine cling to the Missouri Road signs and to the sky The illuminated cloud tiled ceiling a marker So far beyond our reach but not as far as the stars. You say we're driving slow, But the car seems to fly, Life seems to stand still And then we realize. This moment is an illusion, Yesterday turned today Today will turn into tomorrow And soon we'll realize how time really flew. As the sweet evening breeze shifts And the chill hits We're reminding of where we drift. Maybe Kerouac was right, As the last glimpse of daylight lays itself to rest And the moon starts to greet us, I can't help but wonder. There's nowhere to go but everywhere, So why not just keep rolling Under the stars.
