Dream State/Dreamcatcher

Dream State/Dreamcatcher

A Poem by Stephen Tysinger
"

Scattered, like my dreams

"
This dreamcatcher above my bed
stores the dreams within its web
returning them in bits and pieces
into my thoughts it releases
a REM sleep that comes alive
feels so real as I dive
further into this familiar state
of vivid living that does await
for my return to the shore
along the city I do adore
I get all tangled in its weave
these dreams, they take ahold of me
they lead me on, they give me hope
but keeps me hanging by this rope
that's guiding me down these city streets,
through dark alleys where thought retreats.
And then I turn and the scenery melts
around me, alone, and no one else.
Tall buildings fall into nothingness
lights blink out and then fluoresce,
as water rushes past my feet,
and a cool, ocean breeze does greet.
Then down the shoreline my eyes perceive
a dainty figure standing, or do my eyes deceive?
I begin my approach towards her there,
looking out across the tide so fair.
She notices me and meets my gaze
With eyes like pearls that did faze
yet my attention did not falter from her ethereal grace,
and in a blink we stood face to face.
No word did she utter, yet somehow I knew
That in the real world her face would show through.
Moments pass by and I am mesmerized
and her piercing stare I've memorized.
When at an instant before my eyes
from white to black she transmogrifies.
With outstretched wings and onyx plumes
A foreboding raven above me looms.
I meet the gaze of ivory eyes
And with a striking caw she flies.
The portent of my dreams lifts off into the void
and my vision is obstructed as a heavy fog deployed.
With a mighty jolt I'm in my bed
Was it all in my head?
I lay alone in a rigid state
and wonder of the siren's fate
Was she real or purely  figment
Am I meant to understand such an enigma?
I've seen it unfold in familiar ways
recurring often as if to say
remember this sub-consciously
you'll need this dream one day, you'll see.
but was it a really a dream or a reality
that exists with the other in universality

It may seem a little jumpy, but that is intentional. It is about a dream after all! Thanks for reading!!
