Anonymous

Anonymous

A Poem by Arthur Rider

Who is this anonymous fellow?
Does he whisper or does he bellow?

Perhaps he’s not a he but a she.
If she’s a she, she can’t be a he.
To find out if she’s a she and not a he
I will have to wait and see what is to be.

Why is anonymous hiding anyway?
Is his or her name too hard to say?

I think this anonymous might be wise.
Too wise. I have to cut him down to size.

I’ll search for this secretive anonymous.
Is he hiding behind that African Hippopotamus?
Or perhaps she is even behind that silly giant platypus?
Come on, tell me where you are, Anonymous!

I searched the world for this stranger.
I even called for a Texas Ranger,
But he told me he’s only called when in danger,
And not to go looking for this silly stranger.

I decided to give up the look
And just read a nice book.

Yes, it’s written by that amazing wit.
Yes, Anonymous, your name does truly fit!
