Growing a Spine

Growing a Spine

A Chapter by Luna

No.
Those two little letters
Just won't roll off of my tongue.
I try and try
But I just can't find them.
You ask for my work
And I always give it over,
Never even thinking.
College letters start to come
And I finally get one.
I call and tell you,
Excitement in my voice,
And you shoot me down.
You say
You've gotten tons already
And then list them,
Telling me how they begged.
Mortified
I think about
How I'm your support,
You lean on me for certain classes.
If I  could say no
You wouldn't have these colleges
Begging you,
I would.
It's time to grow a spine,
Learn how to say
No.

Luna
My thought process at the moment. If I didn't give these people this work they wouldn't be the ones getting all the recognition. I did the work, I should be the one getting it, not them.

Honest opinions.

Those people won't recognize you. If they wanted to recognize you, they would have done it already. You need to find a way to forgive them (not my best subject either) and move on or simply say "You are not worth my time"

Growing a spine for yourself, I believe in all honesty, is the most difficult thing. I haven't even mastered that yet.

Two letters not words "No." very beginning. May want to fix that, because people will take you literally.

This is a great opinionated, controlled, pleadingly desperate piece. Not the best I've seen, Not the worst. I can't wait for you to give me more my dear ^-^

Just remember you may have gotten them where they are, but if you do start to say no, they won't make it any farther. They will figure out how much they needed you and one day they may even thank you.

This is a good way to put theses thoughts into words. It all flows together really well.

I'm happy for you that you got your college letter. Just think all those ones they got are only because of you.

True true. It is hard to say no sometimes, and everyone gets in this situation at least once in there life. Well done.

Poem told a story of struggle and great hope. Need to hold on to the positive things in a life. Negative people leave us wishing to be elsewhere. Saying no can be hard. But it is necesary sometime. A excellent poem.
