RecoveryA Chapter by LunaCurled up in the library in front of the fire, tears flow down my cheeks. The doorbell rings and I jump up like I have all week, running in hope that it is Jacob come back to apologize and say it was all a plan to get Angela to be my friend again. It wasn’t. It was Angela. “Please, just let me talk.” She says, begging me to give her a chance. I let her in and usher her into the kitchen offering her a drink and some food that she politely declines. “Ok, so I knew he was cheating on you and, I know it was cruel, I wanted you to feel the heartbreak that I did. But I’m guessing you took it a lot harder than I did…” Her voices fades out, taking me in. Purple bags are under my eyes and tears are forever flowing from my eyes. “I feel really bad. You really cared about him and this is a lot worse than what you did to me. You were just trying to protect me and I just wanted to hurt you. I’m a horrible friend.” The doorbell rings and I leave it alone, knowing that my brothers will get it. “Hey Autumn! It’s for you!” Michael calls into the kitchen though I don’t move, afraid of who it could be. Mumbling is coming from the hall and then a figure appears in the doorway, a figure with brown curls and brown eyes who is carrying flowers and chocolates. “What do you want?” I asked, all the sadness coming out in an angry burst. “Autumn, I want to talk to you. Please, I made a mistake.” He begs, a tear of shame rolling down his face, trying to convince me to give in though I know better. “I’m the one who made the mistake when agreeing to go out with you a month ago. Please leave my house. I don’t want to see you here again.” I wave him out, taking Angela by the hand and leading her into the library where we sit on the couch. “Did you really just do that? He came back to ask you out again!” Angela exclaims in shock. “Yes, I did. He hurt me once and I know he would hurt me again if I gave him the chance. So why give him the chance? No one wants to be hurt so I’m not going to let him. He hurt our friendship, he hurt my heart, I’m not going to let him hurt anything else. I may have hoped he would do that but, when you came, I realized he isn’t worth it. “I’m sorry that I did what I did. I knew it was wrong but I just didn’t want to hurt you. I understand why you did what you did though. I hurt you and you just wanted to hurt me in return. I made a mistake and I hope we can still be friends.” I look over at her, her mouth hanging open in shock, realizing that I care about her more than any guy that could possibly come between us. “Autumn, I’m also sorry.” She leaned in, giving me a hug as a tear slid down her cheek. Someone knocks on the door, a desperate knock. “Autumn, please give me another chance. Just one more chance. Let me talk to you!” He calls through the door as I walk to open it. “You may enter.” I say formally, never allowing him to touch me. I sit down on Angela’s lap and she wraps her arms around me protectively, forming a sort of shield to protect me from whatever is coming. “I did that to try to make you and Angela friends again and it obviously worked. I would never hurt you on purpose.” “I believe you are neglecting the little fact about you cheating on me. That is why you were acting weird. I’m sorry but I don’t like cheaters and I don’t believe in second chances. Unless you have anything better to say to try to cover your rear then I must ask you to leave. You know where the door is.” Angela chuckles below me, laughing at how I can kick him out so politely. “Please Autumn.” He begs, trying to come near me. “Don’t touch me you piece of scum. Now leave my house!” I yell, my anger snapping, all the hatred I have had building up in my since the drunk driver hit my parents car all those months ago unleashing on him. He walks towards the exit when Angela calls out. “Don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you!” We burst out into laughter, letting both of us know everything will be fine. © 2010 LunaReviews
