Pretending

A Chapter by Luna

“Patrick! Wake up already! School just started and you just woke up and you already are sleeping? Why are you always so tired!” I nag Patrick who is leaning against the wall, already falling asleep though school still hasn’t started. His blond hair is messed up like it always is, the drool stain still on the side of his face.

“So did you tell him?” Angela asks, coming up behind me and wrapping her arms around my waist in a friendly gesture. Though she seems so cheerful, I hear the underlying tone of suspicion, the tone that dares me to make the wrong move so she can bite my throat out.

“Yup, I told him though he didn’t real say or do anything to me so please don’t ask. He nodded and walked away.” Angela’s eyes lose their light though her lips continue to smile, her mind trying to convince itself that it doesn’t mean anything, that she still has a chance. As Jacob walks over to our group, her face lights up as if he was a lover of hers that she hadn’t seen in years.

“Hey ladies. You are all looking fantastic today!” he exclaims, looking happy to see us both. Angela jumps in front of him and wraps her arms around him, jealousy bubbling in my stomach as he hugs her back. She finally lets go of him and I step in front of him, giving him a small squeeze and letting him go, his brown eyes locking on my blue ones as my brother walks over to our group.

“Hey sis! Come give your little brother a hug!” He grins at me, his blue eyes the matching pair to mine. Though we are twins, the only thing we have in common is our eye color. Jared has straight, blond hair, pale skin, and a muscular frame while I have curly, black hair, toasted honey brown skin, and a petite frame. We are as opposite as day and night, he is interested in sports while I am interested in the arts.

“Jared, I need to put you on a diet. I swear you are gaining weight.” I lecture him, smacking his belly as I give him a hug.

“I need all the food I can get. I’m going to play football this year. You’ll see, I will make the team this time!” I let out a laugh, smacking my brother’s belly again.

“I don’t think they allow beer bellies on the field.” I poke it again and then walk away, wrapping my arms around Angela’s waist, distracting her from killing Jacob with boredom.

“Angela, darling, how are you doing today?” I say in my best English accent, making her laugh which tells me that she is in a much better mood than she was when we left yesterday. She continues eyeing Jacob, the sparkle having returned to her green eyes with more strength than ever before, her determination shining in her cheeks.

“I am just fine darling. And how are you?” She retorts, giving me a tiny kiss on the cheek. I give her one in return to answer the question, not in the mood to speak, while Jacob stands nearby, laughing at the two of us.

“You two are the oddest people in the world.” Jacob laughs from the side, trying to figure out why we are such an odd group and why we are such a close knit group of friends. She leans forward, lifting my feet up off the ground and causing me to squeal as the bell rang over head.

“Ah shoot! I gotta run to class. I’ll see you in math, Autumn, ok?” She calls back to me, rushing towards the fine arts hallway, rushing to art class.

“Of course. See you there!” I call to her, waving as I slowly walk closer to Jacob, watching her turn the corner before falling into Jacob’s arms. “God, you have no clue how long I’ve been wanting to do that.” I whisper, giving him a soft kiss.

“I know, this is going to be really difficult.” He whispered back as we walked, hand in hand, towards French class.

“So that was really his response?” Angela greeted me as I walked into math class, taking my regular seat next to her and getting out my homework.

“Yes. Why do you doubt what I say?” I ask her, attempting to cover the lie again.

“I still think there is something going on between you two, you just act so different around him and you have been the only thing he ever looks at.” Her eyes narrow, trying to break me, trying to see through my armor.

“There is nothing going on. I promise you that.” My mind screams at me, telling me that lying like this is bad and that something bad will come out of this in the end.

“Alright class! Open up your notebooks so we can take some notes!”

I can only imagine how heartbroken Angela will be, noy because her friend took the boy she likes, but because she kept the secret from her. To the next one!

a lot of hugging in this one and a bit of jealousy over the boy going on. At least everyone is cheerful and friendly in the morning, did anyone make coffee?? oh that is work time :) Good start so far I wonder what will happen now.
