Chapter 9

Chapter 9

A Chapter by Luna

I look up at Travis and try to figure out who it is from his facial expression. He sets me back down with a face like a stone. His face has gone white and I could just imagine the steam of anger and hatred rising from his mind. He sits close to me, protectively.

“Oh, Travis, give ye old mate a chance wi’h ‘er!” The voice is odd, raspy and quite frightening.

“You ain’t no mate o’ mine!” Travis barks out, hatred evident in his voice.

“Travis who is this?” I whisper in his ear so he can only hear me.

“Girly, I will carry ye if ye will talk in me ear like that. Maybe even a kiss?”

“Go to hell!” My words spit out of me, anger easily heard in the venom.

“Slag, if you ever try t’ touch ‘er, you will be-be flogged. She is an ‘igher rank than you.” Travis is so angry that he has once again required the strange accent. His  eyes are pitch black like two holes of death.

“Girly, you’s better not talk t’ me like that!” Slag steps towards me but Travis jumps in his way, hands in protective fists.

“Maria, can you stand up?” Travis calls over my shoulder as I attempt to stand. Unfortunately, I cannot. “Well, let me warn you. This will not be pretty.”

“Travie, I’s jus’ wanna see the girly. No need t’ fight over t’at thing. We’s old mates. You’s should share.”

“Stay the ‘ell away from ‘er!” he barks out protectively.

“Alright, don’ worry. I won’t ‘urt yer p***y.” A sly smile is on his face as he looks at me. I shiver in fear.

“Go take yer no good group and gossip like old women. You and me were never mates and we never will be!” Travis fumes, venom enough to kill in his voice alone.

“Ah, now that ain’t nice.” Slag’s sly grin stays on his face, watching as Travis leans over and carefully picks me up.

“Come on Maria. Let’s get away from that son of a b***h.” Travis says only loud enough for me and Slag to hear after we have walked awhile.

“WOT!?” Slag explodes in rage though he is too far away to do anything. “Travis, I will kill ye!”

“Sure he will.” Travis whispers in my ear, causing me to giggle. He pinches my side friendlily and I let out a girly laugh. As we walk down to the middies’ berth, I think to myself. What is wrong with me?
