Blissful Isolation

Blissful Isolation

A Poem by Armistead Lindsey
"

I love to be a solitary creature

"
Company used to hold such value.
People were so inexplicably important.
Yet I'm in my little haven.
Snippets of conversations, here and there,
With select individuals, a chosen few.
My blissful isolation, my sweet little home.
I can truly relax and be the real me.

I can identify with this strongly. For some reason that I can't really fathom I too have been a bit of a 'loner' (I hate the term!) It's hard to analyse the reasons and sometimes you are made to feel that you have to justify yourself - but it's just the way I am! I could find reasons in my upbringing for example i've often wondered whether the fact there is less than a year between my brother and me is significant.
I do often prefer to 'do my own thing' but after a while I do miss company. I'm sure you will understand that the discovery that I had recurrent elevated mood (bipolar??) has helped to put my earlier life (the feeling that my thinking was a bit different and a few spells of depression!) into context.
I am not happy for you that you think that 'people were so inexplicably important' for 'no woman is an island'. Your conclusion rings true for me -'relax and be the real me'.
All the best,
Alan
