Eagles, Angels and Ants

Eagles, Angels and Ants

A Poem by Armistead Lindsey
"

A poem depicting the different roles that people play in life both present, future and past tense

"
Soaring above those below,
So high they look like ants,
Insignificant to the air.
Up here it's only freedom,
The culmination of success,
The epitome of greatness
Held in the feather of an eagle.

Much higher than the eagles,
The clouds provide a cushion,
For milky layered feathers,
With golden rods bend in circles
Floating eloquently above their heads.
They offer protection,
Watch the eagles that soar,
And to the ants below.

But the ants stay grounded,
Secured by their winglessness.
Watching the eagles excel,
Feeling the angels watch,
Asking themselves why they,
Are so tiny and insignificant.
Not seeing the strength
that neither the eagles nor angels
Will ever possibly possess.
Not noticing the resilience,
That the wings of the eagle
Will never match,
That the angels wouldn't dream of.

I write for personal expression and share with people who, in many ways, I hope never to meet in person. This is not because people are horrible, but because my writing holds something too personal fo.. more..
