Another

Another

A Poem by Armistead Lindsey
"

the person I watched drink for 6 hours told me his life story through the whiskey in his glass.

"
Glass in hand,
Tongue in mouth,
A poor excuse for an escape.

Glass on lip,
Eyes closed,
One more breath to swallow.

Glass in hand,
Liquor in mouth,
One fine way to drown it out.

Glass on deck,
Another in mind,
Perhaps the thought will stop.

Glass in hand,
Mind still thinks,
Maybe a bit faster will help.

Glass on lip,
Liquor tips,
The heart begins to race.

Glass in hand,
Eyes glaze out,
More is needed to settle.

Glass on deck,
Burning neck,
Just one more to ease the pain.

Glass in hand,
Thoughts command,
Just swallow pride before this one.

Glass on lip,
Feelings split.
It's time. To have another.

About
I write for personal expression and share with people who, in many ways, I hope never to meet in person. This is not because people are horrible, but because my writing holds something too personal fo.. more..
