The Ring

The Ring

A Poem by The ArK
"

The Ring, a relic of our love...

"
Last night she gave me the ring-
that bore our names,
A reminiscent of the love we once shared,
A shiny ring.

O' dear, why give me back?
Keep it in the deepest pocket of your bag,
or among the last pages of your scrapbook.
But why give me back?

I can't hold it's weight,
cause there's a part of my soul inside-
that I rip apart for you.
A part still craving for your love.

I will dig so deep for this relic,
no nomads can ever find.
I will burn it till it glows,
till the heat of our love melt it.

I will bury it among the woods,
cause love can only be buried among love.
I will give it to nature,
for there's not a better lover than her.

O' dear, you know I can't keep it,
Time must rust it out.
Like our love that once shined,
but left a cold piece of charcoal.

This is brilliant creative writing -- so fresh & full of surprises. I love how you use the ring as a symbol thru-out & you assign many different ideas to show all the ways this ring symbolizes a past experience. It's very imaginative the way you come up with such unusual ways to dispose of the ring. Your suggestions sound almost playful. It's like you show affection for this ring, in the midst of rejecting it. These are the kinds of authentic human contrasts that make writing sparkle (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you Margie. It's always a pleasure to read your review.
It's always been my experience that keeping keepsakes from a prior relationship holds you back and prohibits you from moving forward and finding something better. Excellent, emotional read.

Was my pleasure and you are welcome.
You have symbolised ring very well. To keep something back you gifted to other is very difficult to do so. You have wonderfully expressed the pain of it. Keep up the good work.
