INDEPENDENCE DAY

This poem is an autobiographical note of a boy who one day realizes that his mind was in a struggle between good and bad for a very long time.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

One day in my life

I felt I am not alone.

Someone was with me

all the time.

But I didn't bother to know

who it was.

It was a spirit that

always came with me,

Travelled with me,

Played with me.

It assisted me in my sleep,

in my study, on my play time.

It made my path clear.

Deviating me from

the way of challenges.

It made change

in my personality.

It was the spirit who

made my life easy.

But slowly I realized that

the spirit was no good for me.

It was he who made me

bad to worse.

It didn't let me

face the challenges.

It took away the opportunities

that were in front of me.

It never allowed me to win.

It took me from the

world of light and

blinded me with its black veil.

Made me a living statue!

It took very much time to

realize that the spirit was myself

It was within me,

was a part of me.

It was me who defeated

myself!!!

Now I know the dark side

is growing bigger to biggest.

But I must not allow.

I have to fight and I will.

I have to lighten the

dark side of me.

Don't let the dark part

overtake you.

It will be your end and

you will be no more.

One day I will

overtake my dark side.

And that day will be my

Independence Day!!!!!

There is always that dark side of us, that little devil in our minds dictating and luring us to do the wrong. You are talented, been trying to write a poem with the same message but I can't pull out the true message of it. This is well-penned! One great piece worth shelving.

Indeed the greatest enemy of man is himself. There is a beast inside every good heart. That is because we are all in the state of DUALITY- we both have the dark and light sides..the Yin and the Yang. But it is in our own choice in which side we are going to listen.

I have seen this is your first post here. This doesn't look like a work of a beginner because you already did a good job in this free verse poem. Keep it up, ARK!
