We have to keep our God placated with prayers, and even then we are never sure of him -- how much higher and finer is the Indian's God......Our illogical God is all-powerful in name, but impotent in fact; the Great Spirit is not all-powerful, but does the very best he can for his injun and does it free of charge.
Mark Twain
It seems that it truly is our own intolerance of others that will do us all in. We need to occasionally look at ourselves and the things we believe. How else can we ever effect change. It almost makes me wonder why Jesus decided to come here as a 6 ft white man with blue eyes. This in a area where the population is under six ft tall and has light brown skin and brown eyes. He certainly would have stood out. We all know what populations do to those who are different. It is enough to ponder that a man doesn't know if he should laugh or cry! Could it be as simple an observation as this? Could it be true that man created God in his own image? That would surely be one way of explaining him acting like us.

A very powerful, very courageous write. Although we all seem to think differently about religion- I wanted to comment on the beauty and elegance that this poetic piece of writing exuberates. 'Our lives would be a tapestry, a quilt of love that beauty built'- stunning imagery- and this piece has a wonderful flow about it. On a more personal note of its contents: ‘Do I believe In God?- Yes.’ But I also believe that God would want us to ask questions and to never stop searching for what ‘we’ believe in as individuals and as a whole. To find out what helps us get through life and experience it in all its glory. To learn to from every step we take and to pass our experience, our lessons and our love on to others. Not to doubt that there is a higher power than ourselves, but to find what it is that we believe in our own heart of hearts. I do not think that it is for us to prove in our own time, but to just believe… And to have the vast majority of the world believe… That is some miracle. No matter what name you give to it.
Thank you for sharing your incredible talent.

I never have been one to be led by the masses .I always make up my own mind. I look at the Soviet Union for instance and there was a government and way of living adhered to by an entire culture.Yet flawed to the core. I think we always need to evolve. If I were thew father of humanity I would not create a subspecies below me in every way. As a father i want my son to become more than me not to strive to be worthy of me.

dear Tate... "faith, hope and charity, but the greatest of these is love"... I believe in the "holy spirit" and that when babies are born, they have
that spirit, however babies and children can be influenced by their environment for the better or for the worse. Amazing grace is awesome.
Tate, your poem is penned with unconditional love. truly, Pat
It is difficult to know what is right and wrong in a world where everyone tells us something different. In the end, we do the best with what we can, with the God or higher power of our understanding. A thoughtful write.

Thank you Kl. I agree we are all able to see with our own eyes if we just open them.
Interesting perspective. I feel though, we are "never sure" of God because we are unsure of ourselves. But, a "quilt of love" would, I think, lead to life without guilt. Doesn't our guilt arise in those times when we loved too little and permitted our too human natures ascendancy?

As I see it, our guilt is just that -- OUR guilt. It's not something He just shoved in our faces. He even told us not to judge and to forgive. Forgiveness is about letting go of guilt.
NIV Luke 6: 29 "If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also." 37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven."

My problem with him is that any good man could do a better job of being the almighty. I dont say that with trepidation. I look at the traits of a good man humble kind caring for the weak selfless. Then I see the characteristics of our god overpowering he created a sub culture of beings in his own image .who are unable to ever attain his greatness"According to him anyway" What man would not only not wish his children to be greater than him but would also make sure they could never attain his greatness? Only a selfish narcissist would be so cold self centered and jealous and bitter. No good man worships another nor would a loving god demand it of you. Love comes not from being ordered to do so.If you tell another to love you or go to hell that is not love that is more akin to a master slave relationship or a dog and master. Attend his narcissistic need for attention or go to hell.

Then as an absentee parent i left him nothing more than a book inspiration ally written for me by my offspring and their interpretation of all that i had told them,. Eons later i come home from roaming the galaxy to find man has become wicked and decadent. As a father this painful truth is laid upon my own doorstep as i didn't do a very good job guiding the souls that i created. But in an unfathomable feat of kindness i pass this sin of the father to my innocent son and force upon him the duty of sacrificing himself for my sins. All i can think is He had best never ask me to sacrifice my son for my sins. The answer will be "NO!"

As I've already said, I'm sorry that you're experience hasn't left you with the sense of blessing and Faith in a just and loving God that my own experience has left me with. My experience is that God has always been present and always worked for my best interest. I know, as I sit here writing these words, that I survived to be here by His Grace. That is my experience. It is as valid as your own. God is, to each of us, what we most need Him to be. He will not stop believing in us even if we do not believe in Him. Neither does he condemn us for questioning him. From the very beginning, we questioned him -- Abraham questioned him many times. And, God does NOT expect perfection from us. Nothing in the actual words of the Bible required perfection. The application of the directions -- application by fallible humans -- is where such condemnation and unfair guilt (judgment) arise.
A thought: Do we not, as a people… have we not always asked our sons to sacrifice themselves for our sins? Is that not what we do with every war humanity has ever fought? We send our sons and daughters off to fight and die for our sin of being incapable of living in mutual peace and understanding.

Your imagination of God is so close to the truth! He has wiped out Guilt for us on the cross. All souls and beings desire sincere praise and not flattery. Praise of God through Jesus is just a logical way to come into someones presence. Just the creation of life and salvation in Jesus shed blood is a meaningful purpose to praise him. Just look at the stars and the beauty of Nature. Who could not praise him for such loveliness unless you were completely blinded by pride and self love.

Love is always a choice. We have always had free choice to love and praise him or not. When your child does something good they receive praise and often times rewards. I don't see God demanding anything. Either we appreciate him or we don't. But it would be impossible to praise him without receiving the Holy Spirit 1st through Jesus Christ love and forgiveness. Then it become a natural praise. Just ask for the Holy Spirit after you ask for forgiveness for your sins and if you sincerely want it You will receive Him It will all come natural and flow out of your belly like streams of living water.

I think of the traits of a good father Humility contriteness Selfless behavior Never would a good father demand love of others nor extort it from them by threatening them if they do not .The best minds will tell you that when a man has begotten a child he is morally bound to tenderly care for it, protect it from hurt, shield it from disease, clothe it, feed it, bear with its waywardness, lay no hand upon it save in kindness and for its own good, and never in any case inflict upon it a wanton cruelty. God's treatment of his earthly children, every day and every night, is the exact opposite of all that, yet those best minds warmly justify these crimes, condone them, excuse them, and indignantly refuse to regard them as crimes at all, when he commits them

Upon that I will agree wholeheartedly thank you for the spirited debate devoid of any malice
I've felt this light once...a few years back. It was so bright, and so overwhelming, that it felt other-worldly in nature, and it came to intervene during a time of considerable fear and great doubt. After feeling this "unexplainable energy" I knew that a higher power was at play. I cannot say for sure what this energy was...or what it's intentions were. But I no longer questioned whether or not a higher power existed and whether or not it gave a damn about me. I think man has used and abused this positive energy to feed their own fallible agenda's. The light source at heart is pure, it cannot be contaminated.
But it can be MISREPRESENTED.

I myself can't seem to find that. In my lifetime i cannot remember a single year when we were not at war. How I remember the nation crying for it so often and calling on the holy god to back their efforts in the righteousness of their cause. The loud little handful will shout for war. The pulpit will warily and cautiously protest at first…The great mass of the nation will rub its sleepy eyes, and will try to make out why there should be a war, and they will say earnestly and indignantly: "It is unjust and dishonorable and there is no need for war." Then the few will shout even louder…Before long you will see a curious thing: anti-war speakers will be stoned from the platform, and free speech will be strangled by hordes of furious men who still agree with the speakers but dare not admit it ... Next, statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.
