Set to Roam

Set to Roam

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

There are some men, who can't sit still wandering souls who don't fit in You'll find they trek the globe at will breaking the hearts, of next of kin

"

Great Grandpa Ben Morgan.

There are some men, who can't sit still

wandering souls who don't fit in

You'll find they trek the globe at will

breaking the hearts of next of kin

They range the field to ford each flood

wander mountains and sail the seas

Theirs is the curse of Gypsy Blood

so averse to a life of ease

Many I knew were brave and true

as their deeds and manners attest

Don't let them get attached to you

as they never know how to rest

They find no solace in the old

forever searching for the new

Theirs is a life both tough and bold

although of friends they share but few

They blindly search the noon day sun

for a future that's now their past

Then think of all they could have done

when forced to face the truth at last

There was a time when this was me

desire of rest yet never done

A drifting soul upon life's sea

of adventures I loved each one

We knew no peace, nor settled mind

having nowhere that we called home

Never to know what we might find

each of our soul's was set to roam

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I don't know what it is, sets a mans soul afire. But I was one of those souls who wandered the world searching for adventure. I still roam the lower 48 as if they were my own back yard. Will my poor restless heart ever find peace?

...and in heart, I think, still are. As I said wandering souls are fortunate to have an anchor of love holding from some place or heart that allows the soul to dip and dart and then come home again. We are all special in this life and I truly believe the needs of some are met by others created for the occasion. Your talent creates delicious vignettes for the reader to dine upon and your food for thought is strictly gourmet and rich in everything.
This poem and the wonderful flashes of your life through the black and white photos, made me cry. I feel as though I'm watching a fulfillment transpire and feel so full of gratitude for the experience. You and yours are such beautiful people, both physically and soulwise. I received my TATE books from Amazon today and can hardly wait to begin reading.
Set To Roam seems the culmination of one period in your life and just the beginning of so much more. Hold on I think its going to be even better.

"Set to Roam" is gently spoken with fine syllabic rhythm of (8). The word choice is good with rhyme ABAB. The theme of roaming is addressed with skill and insight and as usual this poet applies to it a unique philosophical depth which resonates deeply with the reader. The alliteration jumps out in line (5) and the only thing I can pick at are the commas in the first stanza. I don't think one is needed after "hearts", and perhaps put one after "still" instead of "men" or just leave it out altogether. Same case for last stanza. The poem contains some fine apropos lines, like "They blindly search the noon day sun." Good work, again in the application of the worldly wandering with heartfelt relationships, which I can personally relate.

Yes this is me through and through. I know no piece of rest for I always seem to be wanting to move or go always on to the next place and always my life in a duffle Im not even sure why it is that I want to always wander. I guess I just have an overwhelming need to move on. I get bored from place to place and always need to see new things. Awesome write Tate...!

So many people rush through life - maybe in case night falls too soon. But more often enough because they're greedy for what they might miss, not happy with the golden, glistening now-seconds.

Your poem's so finely written, says much of the poet and, dare i say it, men in general .. perhaps women savour life more, minute by minute. But, then, that's another poem!

That i guess is human nature Tate...the seek of the thrill- the need to find and retain excitement, wherever she may reside. Though some prefer to go it surrounded with friends and 'next of kin'...i don't blame those who go it alone. Although i will add that i think those who go it alone will end up on so far ahead on the road of adventure that they won't have anyone else to experience the vast splendour of their travels/trials/adventures.

Roaming is truly made wonderful in your words...makes me anxious about my next adventure...

"We knew no peace, nor settled mind
having nowhere, that we called home
Never to know what we might find
each of our soul's was set to roam"

Peace of mind...hopefully that is how we wish our roaming to end.

Nice!

Its so lovely...I wish to roam the world too..but bound by shackles of society and relations...souls like us find no peace, cant be held down..always seeking to discover something new,exciting...even we don't know what we want...an ever unending search!!!
