It hurts my soul to even think of some of the foolish misguided passions and mistakes my life once fed. Don't we all wonder what if? I suppose we all would like to be forgiven for the transgressions of our youth. If we could who among us would not go back and repair the damage we have wreaked? Every time I have been upset with my son. I think back to the wasteland that my youth devastated. I find it easy to forgive his little transgressions.
I'm proud to say my son is a better man than me. And my wife a better woman than I deserve. But I shall stay with her so long as she will have me and count my never ending blessings.

hello friend. silly impractical humans that we are, burdened with a conscience that sees 20/20 in reverse and is about as blind as a bat when looking ahead, we are yet so amazingly compassionate and sentient that we endeavor to take the weight of the world on, as each of us were Herculean in our puny oh-so-ungodly stature! Yet the beauty of it is that our hearts are as big as the sky and surely as God-filled as our painfully lacking souls, which is what makes humans so dear in my estimation. We were certainly created in the image of a supreme being (not to offend anyones religious sensibilities here!)
What I love about your writing Tate Morgan is the humility that shines through as a palpable force, the goodness that runs like a river through every line of ink that rolls off your pen, and that you try harder than about anyone I know to own up! I like the way this piece has no ostentatious underpinning, but is just humbly honest. But I guess I just accused you of being Tate Morgan!
Perhaps there was a design in those "mistakes" you made, for are they not now propelling you in the direction of reflection and rise to a greater height? I always walk away from one of your pieces with a little more hope that when I started, because you rub off on a fella like that, it comes right out of the page and into my heart, for which I am always thankful.

Beautiful and heartfelt. We all make mistakes, but we can also learn from them, and my friends it sounds to me like you have and will become that man yant to be.
Tate, you have a generous and loving soul. Every time I read your writing, I am struck by that. The paths to an open heart can be varied and unstintingly amazing. I think you have found your path, followed it, and opened your heart.
We often do things in the past that reflect who we are now. Whether its the criminal offenses, heart breaks, intelligence, friendships, education, etc, it makes us who we are. The things we do and the things people hear about us are the way other people will judge you, also. Sure, everybody makes mistakes, but it doesn't mean that people are going to let go of it. Refreshing your opinion on someone and starting over is utterly impossible when you've seen them at their lowest and weakest.
Reading this poem made me think about some of the stuff I did in the past that shapes my judgment now. How people trust my judgment. I also feel that you can't fully change without going back through your past and correcting the mistakes. Even if there are millions, you can't be a new person without confronting them.
I'm not a mother, nor do I intend to be, but I also know that children look up to their parents when they are young. As the years evolve, and so does the personalities, they either still do or don't. But I thought it was incredibly wise of you to gather up your pride and change. Its very interesting to see you get your inspiration from your kids. I may not be very fond of you from the things I hear around this site, but this poem changed my whole outlook on you. Brilliant piece, especially the last stanza.

This is beautiful. A wonderful insight as to the thoughts of a father looking back at his life and at his child. But is it not each mistake and sin that we commit that shapes who we are? You are wise because you once were foolish. This is a touching write.
Yes, sometimes we dont quite consider things when we are young. Our main concern seems to revolve around having fun. Dont we all wish we could go back in time and change things, longing to have a different past from which we can refer to. However, the past is the past. And God tells us tht the past is washed away. I think it helps shape us as well. Think of it this way, because u have experieced these things- u can warn ur son abt the consequences- the regret. U have ur passed experieces to draw from, u'll know wht ur tlking abt. If he ever says u dont understand, u can correct him- u do. Great piece tht makes ur reader think abt their own lives
We all make mistakes Tate, the beauty of it is that we learn from them and its makes us a better person. We just have to get up, dust ourselves up and continue to walk the road before us. God is merciful!
Truth is I'm fond a fan of your work, but you review me rarely.....hint, hint.
Sins of our youth. It's amazing how it all comes back to haunt you. But if we were perfect, what would be the fun in discovering our humanity? Beautifully penned like always my friend.
well... i let go of wondering what if ... when i started going with the flow and enjoying life and everyday in its true sense... it feels an amazing thing to reach closer to the point when someone asks " would be die happy if you were to die today?" and you can answer "yes" ...
but your finesse and passion combined to create a great work... it expresses so neatly... all the more closer to perfection...
