My Truth

My Truth

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

If only I could travel back to correct the sins of my youth I could tell him to be like me knowing I was telling the truth

"

Tate and I

This the question of existence

to be a good soul all my days

I find the problem in my years

setting example by my ways

------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I have tried to reconcile

with the conscience that rules my soul

I always find I come up short

never quite reaching that fine goal

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was young I ruled the waves

holding sway in every court

I did as my heart commanded

as if life were a game of sport

------------------------------------------------------------------------

But now that I am not alone

I find myself caring much more

How my character is perceived

and what I hide behind each door

------------------------------------------------------------------------

So now I have committed to

repairing the mistakes and flaws

Fixing all the things that went wrong

when I did not follow the laws

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I pray that I be successful

in changing my bad ways to good

To give my child a fighting chance

just as every father should

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If only I could travel back

to correct the sins of my youth

I could tell him to be like me

knowing I was telling the truth

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
It hurts my soul to even think of some of the foolish misguided passions and mistakes my life once fed. Don't we all wonder what if? I suppose we all would like to be forgiven for the transgressions of our youth. If we could who among us would not go back and repair the damage we have wreaked? Every time I have been upset with my son. I think back to the wasteland that my youth devastated. I find it easy to forgive his little transgressions.
I'm proud to say my son is a better man than me. And my wife a better woman than I deserve. But I shall stay with her so long as she will have me and count my never ending blessings.

Your writing, lately, says that you are becoming a better man than you believed that you could be. You have opened the shades, taken the shades from your eyes; you are seeing life living, maybe, for the very first time. Your observations are filled with beauty. You have come full circle. You are blessed and are, finally, humble enough to recieve the blessing. I love your recent writes, because you are so alive, finally. No more searching, but knowing. You are a very talented man and, now, you know just how gifted you are to be able to express your feelings to the world. Your son is lucky to have you, as you are now; yesterday is dead and gone. Tomorrow lives on. I loved this! Perfect!!

Your truth is in the hearts and minds of every human beings. Those who are parents want the best for our children and that means being a good example now rather than the past. Our sins from the past just shows we are not perfect just human. One should only glance at the past only to take notes and move on. For if you look back too long you not only lose motion but your spiritual reward. Great job!

Thank You rico i always look back to see where ive been and find the way to who i will be
without reading i feel the sweet and sad of your poetry reflections .. of course one would if it were possible ..change one thing or another in hind sight .. but i am not so sure that changing my decisions one way or the other would by necessity of "experience" be something "better" ???? ;}
know what i mean? ;)
in reading this poem i recall scriptures like .. the sins of the father visited upon the children .. and who can make themselves taller or shorter by taking thought ??? and ... all fall short of the glory of God .... and several others .. i am no scholar but if one googles ... the verse and line (i am sure) can be found ..
among the major belief systems presented in our world .. only one answers the conflict of wanting to be though unable to be .. that little bit better .. :) i love this poem ... so much is sparked and expressed in language, feelings and encapsulated moment .. this is just the start of the Hymn ...

Proverbs 31:10-31
Hymn to a Good Wife

10.. A good woman is hard to find,
and worth far more than diamonds.
Her husband trusts her without reserve,
and never has reason to regret it."
:) love peace and flowers

ps .. such a fine song!

thank you lynn how sweet to hear
I used to wonder what if. Then, I reached a point where I could look back on my life and know that every single step… every torment… ever debacle led me to one place… one person… one moment in time upon which all my current a future joys rely. I knew in that moment that I'd suffer every torment, doubt, and/or debacle because to change one thing might mean I'd miss out on this glorious now.

Great job Tate, I enjoyed reading this. I will say that it takes a lot of strength to go back and correct wrongs made. Most will not do it but it builds character. There are many things I wished I had done differently also but all we can do is learn from mistakes and use that wisdom to perceive danger that is in the road for our loved ones. Your a humble man Tate, glad to be a friend of yours--Levi

Mistakes that we made in the past make us become who we are, we become better with every mistake, now you are able to teach your child not to travel the road you traveled because he will get lost. Good one Tate as usual.

As I wrote in a poem (part of my self-publlished book), although not directly applicable to you, I'll quote a paragraph since it has to do with making amends: "Uncover the lies, relieve the hurt; be brave before it's too late; tell the truth... let it be!; Make amends and you'll be FOREVER FREE!" From the tenor of your poem, whatever it was, you have made amends, so you are "free" to share your new life with your son, your wife and others.
