Envy

Envy

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

When once we walked among the trees equals in every measure Both felt the blowing of the breeze that bespoke of life’s true treasure

"

When once we walked among the trees

equals in every measure

Both felt the blowing of the breeze

that bespoke of life’s true treasure

We were once best friends together

whose futures seemed boundless and bright

Shall that friendship part forever

with the dousing of our loves light

All was unknown, unseen, untasted

emotions we had yet to show

Now what's left are feelings wasted

the things that helped to make us grow

Shall they turn into bitterness

to cover failings of our own

Then douse down those whom others bless

from a heart that has turned to stone

Through common things and days events

for each moment there comes an end

With our lives joys and discontents

we choose whether we will ascend

One by one choices pass away

grasping those that we most savor

Oh may we not selfishly sway

to envy those, others favor

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I think many times on the friends whose lives have effected my own.So many times I wonder why I had such a hard life. The truth is I had a good life and I am very blessed to have the family and friends that I call my own. Envy, jealousy and all that goes with it always leads to pain and misery. Be happy to be alive and well. And hope for this fleeting moment that you might be given the chance to share in another s fate and love. For what else can any of us hope for?

I lived many years with pain and devoid of love. It took discovering self love to bring me out of my despair as I had no family to show me how to love. Your writing seems to come from your herat. I do appreciate it.

This one nearly had me in tears. It bought back memories of my best friend who I no longer see. Jealousy, bitterness and competition tore us apart. I wish we could have seen the wisdom in this write and be proud of each other’s achievements. I guess the world is what we make it. . I'm not really sure what that makes me.
Thanks for sharing this. It has left me deep in thought.

Enlightenment and wisdom your writing shares, leading to the path of love that was always there....instead of crumbs to be scattered and eaten up we scatter petals to scent the way

If a heart turns to stone..if it the cause of me...or the other person?? Envy is a word that only hurts those who are left wanting what others have..A brilliant write Tate..You are truly amazing//God bless..Kathie

You are such a wonderful writer! In not only how you write, but what you write, and how flawlessly you do it. Pulling at the heartstrings of things I know of firsthand. I must mention how I love that you include music and pictures along with your poem, just that much extra and it adds to it wonderfully. Well done!

Beautiful words Tate. Makes one think about the meaning of friends and wish that petty triteful things never came to dull our sense of love and caring. Beautifully done. And what a great choice of pictures. :) Awesome.

This struck me in its profound view of life... the every day choices we make that define us... choosing others or self... In the end, these choices will show the depth of our love and character. May we stand the test of time...

A well worded poem. I had to read it a few times only because it was rather enjoyable. I would have to agree with you. We should strive to smother those particular emotions from our psyche. Otherwise some may be doomed to never find true happiness or love for live.
