My Sunshine

My Sunshine

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y All that ti-me, I'd been for-saken with each gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

"

My granddaughter Payton last week on the deck.
These are all 24' by 18" canvases done in graphite pencil. I drew this picture last week after playing with her.

When a young ma-n, you were a twin-kle

within the e-ye, of a dream one da-y

I laughed each ti-me, I thought of yo-u

wondering just wha-t, you might sa-y

I awoke de-ar, one night from dream-ing

found twenty ye-ars, had slipped me b-y

All that ti-me, I'd felt for-saken

each new gray ha-ir, there came a si-gh

Just one look de-ar, was all I nee-ded

to know you we-re, the girl I sa-w

The dream I wo-uld, always trea-sure

with the fir-st, of your words Pa-pa

The night no lo-nger, haunts m-e

with dreams of what ma-y, not come tru-e

Now each da-y, a new ad-venture

since life li-t, my world with yo-u

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
To Payton
I wish you a long and happy life. And may your first words be Papa Tate.

I think I broke every rule with this one lol
I was playing with my granddaughter last week on the deck and could swear she said "Papa".That was all it took for me I was hooked. I'm so easy lol

Set to the melody of You Are My Sunshine, the piece is to be sung to the melody. Hence the hyphens and pauses

This is absolutely beautiful Tate, it melted my heart. It really brings me back to when I was little, how wonderful everything was. I can even remember my mother singing this song to me before bed or when I was scared.
Thank you for sharing this piece and thank you for bringing back such precious memories.

Sometimes it's refreshing to see rules broken. This is a beautiful, heartfelt poem about the love of a father and grandfather. What more could one ask for then to see the delightful image of your son in your granddaughter. Your drawing is beautiful and precious.

I'm smiling so much to read this! It's so beautiful - she will love this and her Papa Tate I bet. I hope you read or sing this to her! Reading this is lovely but having it set to the melody of this song takes to another level and makes it lovelier still.
The bond of a grandparent and grandchild is so special and this piece shows how much you love her - I thought this was especially seen in these lines:
"Now each da-y, a new ad-venture
since life li-t, my world with yo-u"
Beautiful poem and fantastic drawing!
Cherish every moment :)

I was going to ask about the hyphens until I scrolled down and read the Author's Note. But set to the melody, I'm singing along with everyone else:-) Beautiful artwork as well. I used to do pencil drawing (moreso buildings) and oil pastel (still lifes); it's been so long since I sketched or drew anything that I'm not sure if I still can. Such a cutie pie lil' Payton is:-)

Absolutely sweet and moving! I love how the poem is set to the music. And even the words to the original song apply. Excellent drawing, too - you really captured the image well. Enjoy the stolen moments as much as you can!

Wow I re read it, or sung it with that tune and it works, gotta admit I was a bit confused by the hyphons the first time. I love it!
