The Sky is Falling

The Sky is Falling

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

They don't know anymore than you how to ease your life's pain Nor do they know why the winds blow or how to make the skies rain

"

"A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her. "
"Drown in a cold vat of whiskey? Death, where is thy sting?"
"More people are driven insane through religious hysteria than by drinking alcohol!"
 W. C. Fields

We knew them as rainmakers

in days that have long passed

Now they claim to be enlightened

from this incarnation they're  cast

They come from out of the woodwork

these prophets of the Lord

Claiming to be God's right hand man

here just to give you your reward

The story is always the same

bring your souls and your means

Grow a ladder to the heavens

by planting a few magic beans

Please forgive me the resemblance

with the child's tale long told

Perhaps they've been around as long

as the prophecies they've foretold

So the next time someone tells you

that they know the Lord's will

Feel the cold winds whistling by

it's their conscience that gives you chill

We see each and every time

demons never appear

And all the predictions they made

were built on nothing more than fear

They don't know anymore than you

how to ease your life's pain

Nor do they know why the winds blow

or how to make the skies rain

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
It never seems to end. These prophets predicting doom. The time before it was the Millennium. This time a date from prophecy. Always it is the same story these phony prophets of the scriptures. And always they leave nothing but heartache and disbelief in their wake.

Excellent points and very well written. In my opinion, the only prophets (for a lack of a better term) that exist are within ourselves. By that I mean, I believe that we create our own reality; thus we choose to create outwardly what we think and feel on the inside (both individually and collectively). Unfortunately the negative seems to be outweighing the positive, but we are still able to see beauty and joy in life despite all the negativity trying to overshadow it all. That's just my opinion though... This was an excellent piece that was a pleasure to read. Thank you for sharing.

Beautifuly poetic way to point out the "Snake Oil" sales pitch. Fear mongering has been big business far too long. The last line,
"They don't know anymore than you

how to ease your life's pain

Nor do they know why the winds blow

or how to make the skies rain", speaks volumes! They don't know more than we.

This is a stunning poem, exceptionally resonant and strong and uplifting. I love it. You truly expose the fallacy of these prophesisers using a classic, well-controlled style which really frames the brilliantly argued poem. Loved it!

Well, in my opinion the Bible says "No man knows the day or hour" So when these prophecies such as this has happen it goes in one ear and out the other.
There are always gonna be some trying to make a profit off of something and there are always gonna be those that fall for it. But as long as you and I and others know then there will be a few wise ones still around. lol
I think alot play on the fears of many.
Very nice write Tate.

haha.... yeah the whole thing about the world coming to an end really made me laugh the other day. XD
the funny thing is, now the same guy says "I made a mistake, its actually going to happen in October" (I forget when in October he said, but it doesn't really matter, he's going to be humiliated again anyway). LOL!
awesome poem!

well, it's works for politicians doesn't it??? Seriously though, I think your poem is a little too soft on these charlatans. But then in my opinion. you'd have to go up the ladder, and include the charlatans of the organized religions and politics and then, well it gets messy doesn't it.
True to form Tate your class and heart sing out in this piece.

I completely agree with you! Some many people believe them and get scared. I always wonder, even if it is the end of days, what are they going to do to stop it from happening? Whats the point of panicking? Just live your life the best you can and be happy.

Like the poor these nay-sayers will always be with us I beleive that in the Bible it states that "No man will know the day or the hour" So all this hooey about the word ending by such and such a date or hour even if the "prophey" comes from a non-releigious source cannot be trusted according to Christian belief.
It is all guess work and if one guess happens to be correct tham you will hear "I told you so"
I could go a whole lot deeper into this subject but I might offend someone so Nuff said!

A piece of history here in light of the past few days. The havoc that some wreck upon the lives of the vulnerable who believe them. I personally am very mournful of these events and the pain it has caused in the life of many. The confusion and now the mockery will not stop for quite awhile. Well penned my friend.
