The Sky is Falling

The Sky is Falling

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

They don't know anymore than you how to ease your life's pain Nor do they know why the winds blow or how to make the skies rain

"

"A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her. "
"Drown in a cold vat of whiskey? Death, where is thy sting?"
"More people are driven insane through religious hysteria than by drinking alcohol!"
 W. C. Fields

We knew them as rainmakers

in days that have long passed

Now they claim to be enlightened

from this incarnation they're  cast

They come from out of the woodwork

these prophets of the Lord

Claiming to be God's right hand man

here just to give you your reward

The story is always the same

bring your souls and your means

Grow a ladder to the heavens

by planting a few magic beans

Please forgive me the resemblance

with the child's tale long told

Perhaps they've been around as long

as the prophecies they've foretold

So the next time someone tells you

that they know the Lord's will

Feel the cold winds whistling by

it's their conscience that gives you chill

We see each and every time

demons never appear

And all the predictions they made

were built on nothing more than fear

They don't know anymore than you

how to ease your life's pain

Nor do they know why the winds blow

or how to make the skies rain

Author's Note

It never seems to end. These prophets predicting doom. The time before it was the Millennium. This time a date from prophecy. Always it is the same story these phony prophets of the scriptures. And always they leave nothing but heartache and disbelief in their wake.

Excellent points and very well written. In my opinion, the only prophets (for a lack of a better term) that exist are within ourselves. By that I mean, I believe that we create our own reality; thus we choose to create outwardly what we think and feel on the inside (both individually and collectively). Unfortunately the negative seems to be outweighing the positive, but we are still able to see beauty and joy in life despite all the negativity trying to overshadow it all. That's just my opinion though... This was an excellent piece that was a pleasure to read. Thank you for sharing.

Ah yes, the doomsayers all seem to come out of the wood work about every 10 years or so. The y2k ruined the career of Mr. Art Bell, and the other doomsayers who invested on the fears people had coming in to the new millineum, now people are trying to make a profit from the Maya-effect, I am saying from my experience and observation that people who pray on the fears of others bring about some real bad karma for themselves. Personally I believe that noone knows the day and hour the world will end, and that will lead us all blissfully into the next realm. Bravo my friend on such a good write!

Just points out that the only voices worth listening to are those of the ones you love. The poem reflect that the word phrophet is'nt too dissimilar from politician. The 'do what we say because we have God on our side' brigade. Well, so does the other side. Good points strongly made.

Great point, Tate. :)
Some of them say that you can't have true faith if you won't believe them. And if you don't have true faith, you'll go to hell. That's not very forgiving. I'm an Atheist... you know what - if there is a God; he can tell me 'I told you so' and I'll deal with it. If there isn't... Well, I'll just be rotting flesh, so I guess it won't matter.
Everytime I hear these things - THE WORLD IS ENDING!!! REPENT!!! - I laugh at it, and watch as the clock ticks past the hour they promised would be my last.
What else is there to do? No matter what, there will always be these people hanging around, preaching crap. You can't stop them, so you might as well have a laugh. :)

Anyway, enough ranting - great poem; i really enjoyed it, and it's a sign of a great poem when it gets people thinking (or ranting). =)

Loved the WC Fields picture and quote. The poem made me wonder why these people do it. I feel more compassion than fear when I hear them. I guess some are more vulnerable. My mum was afraid of Gypsy's...she thought if she refused to give them anything at the door they would put a curse on her. It made me grow up determined not to be intimidated...but strangely...In spite of their pressure tactics I absolutely love them. I used to admire those guys you used to see, walking up and down with a board saying the end of the world is nigh. Thanks.
