Tatertots Blues

Tatertots Blues

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Now most would say that I was wrong advising him this way Politically incorrect to ask he stand and pay

"

Southpaw Tate age 9

My son came home from school one day

worried bout what I'd say

A bully had been taunting him

he'd tortured him all day

_____________________________________________

Now I could see the truth in this

boys tend to act not think

Unlike their female counterparts

they are the missing link

___________________________________________

For boys it’s all about the show

coming into their own

There is no escape for the child

who finds he stands alone

_________________________________________

Four years of Karate classes

all for one afternoon

When he'd have to stand like a man

called out from the saloon

__________________________________________

Next day he ran home all-alight

black-eye on one side too

His smile said he had stood his ground

friendships would start anew

____________________________________________

Next day they both trod side by side

beaten, battered and bruised

Tate along with his new best friend

each sporting black eyed blues

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
My son got into little scraps and he said it was because they teased him calling him Tatertot LOL He came to like that name as it wore on him. I could spend all night trying to explain the behavior of boys.Truth is there is no reason or excuse for us lol.

People always say boys will be boys, but I think that this behaviour has a lot to do with testing each other out to see who's alpha male, after all we are genetically only 12 chromosome pairs away from apes :D

Not politically incorrect at all. I have aspergers syndrome and let me tell you that if you have such and are growing up going to public school in eastern kentucky of all possible places then that means that you either have to learn to fight or get beaten up alot. So needless to say, I can relate to what you are trying to say. A well written piece as always.

Adolescent behavior needs the liberty of thoughts and action.Their reason feels overpowering.

Haha this was fantastic!

"Four years of Karate classes
all for one afternoon
When he'd have to stand like a man
called out from the saloon"
My favorite stanza.

The flow was tremendous and the message was clean. I like how you taught this lesson. Very unexpected and raw.
Haha.

I wouldn't say you did wrong, there is nother wrong with defending yourself...I love the truth in this piece! I have a few friends who I hated when I first met them, went fist to cuff with one or two, and ended up being best friends with one...

Great Write Tate!
