Tatertots Blues

Tatertots Blues

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Now most would say that I was wrong advising him this way Politically incorrect to ask he stand and pay

"

Southpaw Tate age 9

My son came home from school one day

worried bout what I'd say

A bully had been taunting him

he'd tortured him all day

_____________________________________________

Now I could see the truth in this

boys tend to act not think

Unlike their female counterparts

they are the missing link

___________________________________________

For boys it’s all about the show

coming into their own

There is no escape for the child

who finds he stands alone

_________________________________________

Four years of Karate classes

all for one afternoon

When he'd have to stand like a man

called out from the saloon

__________________________________________

Next day he ran home all-alight

black-eye on one side too

His smile said he had stood his ground

friendships would start anew

____________________________________________

Next day they both trod side by side

beaten, battered and bruised

Tate along with his new best friend

each sporting black eyed blues

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
My son got into little scraps and he said it was because they teased him calling him Tatertot LOL He came to like that name as it wore on him. I could spend all night trying to explain the behavior of boys.Truth is there is no reason or excuse for us lol.

Hehe, you boys. A bit more of a lighthearted theme than usual, and I enjoyed it.

This was wonderful, I too now have a smile on my face. Boys may not think first like girls, but boys are more forgiving as where girls tend to hold the grudge.
This was wonderul Tate, Thanks for the smile today. :)

I have a familiarity with this piece Tate...being a Martial Arts instructor and paractitioner of the martial arts, for over twenty years, I have had the pleasure of training so many young students from the age of three to adults of the senior age...it is a life long experience and helped so many young ones realize that even in life we must stand and defend ourselves...martial art training is more toward the self disipline mentality but when it comes down to it we All ultimately meet our Bully...not every parent has trained but alot of them found out just how important it is for their own children...nice work my friend you made the right decision...

:D Love this Tate! Boys are awesome in all their unreasonable, inexcusable, incorrigible ways! And you demonstrate a rite of passage here so well. Excellent write as always! :)

Ahh, childhood. My father would agree with you, Men must stand their ground. Yes, that is the right thing to do- that is because the one who says that is showing the child that you believe in them.
Great moral story told. Thanks for sharing!

A truthful and solid prose, full of angst and emotion, well done, good read.

Your words are true. I could tell you a long story about my many tests being raised in Detroit. Boys must stand their ground. I like the ending. In life the people that test us become good friends. Thank you for the photo and the outstanding story.
