None Ever Come To Stay

None Ever Come To Stay

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

With them go my joys and sorrows this life spent chasing dreams The grandiose philosophy built of my lofty hopes and schemes

"
Scout and I

Scout and I

The time trickles by unnoticed

our moments fade away

While their coming and their going

pass us by day to day

Each new morn comes by to meet me

as nothing seems to last

The thoughts of youth just melt away

as all become the past

With them go my joys and sorrows

this life spent chasing dreams

The grandiose philosophy

of lofty hopes and schemes

Younger days when I once believed

I'll sleep when I am dead

Now I feed the mind on learning

I still keep those fires fed

Why can't we inherit wisdom

pass along what we know

Given benefit of insight

might help our species grow

The generations march to war

pounding drums of glory

Saying it will happen no more

it's the same sad story

Gales form around each new child's life

what they don't know be true

The winds foretell what future holds

oh if they only knew

The sands of time keep flowing on

our lives to pass away

Some are coming, some are going

none ever come to stay

We will never make it to enlightenment at the rate we are going. Men just don't live long enough to learn from their mistakes.

Your words have never been truer, decades and decades have passed and yet man, with his greed, finds new ways to corrupt and cheat their neighbors, ( not all ) But for the purpose of saying, man does not learn, for if he did, we would not be where we are today in all the worlds, ( a mess )

the good news is our species has a fail safe mechanism. all we need is a critical mass of enlightened individuals and a morphogenic field will sweep over our species and we will all consciously evolve....instantly, from one moment to the next, we are coalesced and moving in the direction of our true destiny, a new evolution, a cosmic consciousness--

I'm back (for a bit)! Very well said. I like how the first half concentrates on comings and leavings for one person and then how it looks on the greater picture. I especially like the stanza about war. I'm only missing something about the repetitiveness of history which would nicely fit after the war stanza. Yet "it's the same sad story" can be interpreted in the same way. So in the end there is really no need for it. Great job!

This is beautiful Tate. How fast the years go by. I love this song, it reminds me of the original series of 90210. I cherish my younger years, wish I could back.

I can really relate to this. Very nicely expressed, though I believe that since "GALES" is plural the apostrophe is unnecessary..unless I misread and it is a form belonging to Gale? Great write, expressing the human condition of acquiring wisdom later in life.

Wisdom is so elusive a commodity. We do the best that we can before we pass on the torch. Well done!

I like this poem, it emphasizes my thoughts about humankind in a way that evokes future hope. But, as George Carlin said, the planet is fine but the people are screwed.

herein lies the riddle. man does not live long enough to correct his failures, he merely passes the torch to the next generation; who also is sadly lacking in time and wisdom. very profound and stimulating piece of writing. well done, tate!
