it's wonderful sir.
especially the line "Gale's form around each new child's life
what they don't know be true
The winds foretell what future holds
oh if they only knew
Our generations march to war
pounding drums of glory
Saying it will happen no more
it's the same sad story"
gives nice effect bout your thinking...
it's awsome...
Tate, like I told you...you haven't lost the ability to write great things..In fact I envy you somewhart as you are a far better writer than I am..Great poem...lol and God bless//Kathie
A fine poem with philosophical insight, written with soft yet keen style. You make some good observations, put together memorable phrases. Stanza three is nice where you speak of "grandiose philosophy" and stanza five stands out alluding to how we as a species could grow. As a vet myself, I am draw to stanza seven, as the "...generations march to war." The poem ends finely, albeit sadly, tying up the gist of it all in good style.
Wonderful title and last line: "None ever come to stay". How true and how apt a summary of Man. None of us make any permanent mark on existence no matter how great we are in life, no matter how hard we try, no matter how lucky, rich, wise, or powerful. We all fade away with time. It is frustrating at the deepest level. One good comet collision with the Earth, and we'll all be gone, and that happens roughly every 100 million years. It's been 86 million years since the last one that got rid of the dinosaurs.
"Younger days when I once believed
I'll sleep when I am dead
Now I feed the mind on learning
I keep those fires fed"
Once again, a powerful poem built on truth. I enjoyed reading this. Maybe men don't learn from their mistakes in time because they are too stubborn to be wrong and don't want to learn. I hope we will have the strength to want to learn for the future. Great write!
Oh but if wisdom were inherited where would be the joy in discovering, and learning these wisdom's first hand? Childhood does leave all to quickly and so does innocence.
