Old Friends

Old Friends

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

To have a warm and a faithful friend who cheers in an adverse hour Is the gift you never wish offend to inherit life's great dower

"

Daughter Aris and friends

Old friends are the best of treasures

they say the kindest things of us

Amidst rebuke they bring pleasures

our deepest thoughts they will discuss

We look to them for a gracious tongue

they guard dear our own dignity

Upon shoulders hopes and fears hung

that boost our own ability

To have a warm and faithful friend

who cheers in the adverse hour

Is that you never wish offend

to inherit life's great dower

To some I think I am a pain

but most my friends don't seem to mind

They know it is because I am vain

though to them I am always kind

We all have little faults it seems

may they not be large in measure

My friends are those which make the dreams

not a struggle but a pleasure

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I have always been exceptionally grateful for the few friends I could count on one hand. They are the ones that renew my faith and give my life dignity. The picture is of my daughter and two friends. Two with whom she is still friends. She is in her 4th year of college with Emily her room mate pictured in the back.

I have oh so many acquaintances, but a few very, very good friends.....they are treasures indeed. You have described them well. :)

Lovely. Always such truth in your writes...
the power and importance of a true friend should not be forgotten...they can bring out the best in you and accept you for who you are...
I love the last stanza -
"We all have little faults it seems
may they not be large in measure
My friends are those which make the dreams
not a struggle but a pleasure"
-- It says it all.
Great poem Tate.

Aw sweet! Your author's note brought it all home for me, and that is a wonderful thing - I too am still friends with women who held my newborn son and daughter, and they are 32 and 30 this year....and I remember my friends as 15 year old mischievous girls who are now 50 years old...Great write!

This was beautiful. From reading this, I wish all had the opportunity to have a friend as so. It would make the world a better place. Truth and honesty always engulf your poetry, and that's not why it makes it so appealing. It's because behind your words, hide so many emotions and messages, one can never grow tired of learning something new because of your words. Lovely write!

You did a fantastic job, I think that not enough people truly consider what real friends mean. Great job.

Simple, sweet, and true... like any good friendship.

Also a fantastic song... I'm the biggest Stones fan of my generation. :)

i will Agree.

Old friends are the best of treasures

they say the kindest things of us

but i did learn a Friend that wasn't a true friend she wanted my attention was trying to break up my family so she wasn't a true one but i have ones i have known my whole life that are like family to me so i say becareful of whom we befriend i learned that lession but i have such a Loving and a kind heart thats my downfall and got me in trouble but God has shown me Too much love isn't good if they push away the wisdom and advice when you're trying to help so much you must back away in just pray and let them go cause it's the best for you and them.

Such a lovely Piece thank you for sharing Blessings Lily
