The Writers Cafe Virus

The Writers Cafe Virus

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Why is it we all tolerate what in real life we would not take The art of being someone’s friend just to use them for our own sake

"

When did we ever say that we

regulate anonymity

Nor wish it on another soul

to bestow mediocrity

This virus if allowed to grow

will infect each and every one

With the feeling of helplessness

hiding the dark within the sun

We lose good people everyday

tired of wondering on their friends

They will keep fleeing from this site

until this childishness here ends

I can't speak for everyone

but for myself I will say this

I would never let a nightmare

send me off to the great abyss

Why is it we all tolerate

what in real life we would not take

The art of being someone’s friend

just to use them for your own sake

If you can't find it in yourself

to be truthful open and kind

You are wrong simply to assume

that we are all deaf, dumb and blind

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
We all want the same thing here.To meet and share with friends. I say we stop tolerating this nightmare that never ends. Some will say I should not be so upset .Let it roll off.But I have never lain down for abuse. I would rather be knocked down.
A man can always take comfort
in the things he must abide
To look in the mirror fallen
taking resp-it from that he tried

Lately the bad actors are coming out of the woodwork and i am half tempted to open a site just to list each and every one of their names for the sake of the good people here.
Today one of these vermin trashed the work of David Lewis Paget. I say enough is enough! Even if it means we have to publicly out them !

Most know who the main problem is on here. Desbest said it well. For a while this virus was abated, but it is like Herpes and it keeps coming back. I have no problem blocking and ignoring, but it gets uncomfortable not knowing who you can trust. I just purged approx 75 people from my list of "friends." I will not leave because of a few trouble makers. As a few of us have concurred that this is a social experiment. Konsor lets anything go. Like Animal Farm or Lord of the Flies!

It's too bad to see something like this happen here.

You have great points here Tate and I agree. Some people just have to tear other people down to build themselves up, it is very sad for them really if you think about it that they have to go to such lengths just to gain a little bit of confidence. I was once heckled by someone on this site through "reviewing" which was more like their unwanted ignorant comments instead of an actual review. So I got mad and threw it back at them and I didn't ever hear anything from them after that especially, after I happened to look on their profile and point out to them that I noticed that they didn't even have one single bit of writing! When I saw that it just made me laugh! Also what you say is true about people on this site using others by adding them as a "friend" on here just to get reviews. That happens more so than not on this site I believe, and it does make one feel its insincerity. I am guilty it myself sometimes. I am glad that you have addressed these things. I found this write more clear after I read it a couple of times, but now that I understand it completely I am going to say that this write is so powerful, open, honest, and true. I love the last stanza also, what you said in the author's note, "Some will say I should not be so upset .Let it roll off.But I have never lain down for abuse. I would rather be knocked down," me too! "A man can always take comfort
in the things he must abide
To look in the mirror fallen
taking resp-it from that he tried," I just love that.

I am sorry that unkindness has followed into this world. I am fairly new to this site and not experienced it here much, but I suppose this site does mirror the real world in that way. I have come to need this site and the people here to help inspire and educate me--as an aside, your poetic soul just shines through this piece.

I agree with you Tate. Tis very true.

Well I can't really comment that much on this as I don't have much time to spend here. The problem is universal and on all websites like this. Some people just like to troll or do stupid things. That is when it comes to reviews of writing and similar things. When it comes to friendship, you make are trying to make a point that here are some who are friends with you just for their own gain. Well, I would say that it's the same in the real world too. The Internet is a mirror of our society.

It is quite sad that those of us who are here to write, share our writing, and learn and grow, can be the victims of those who choose to run amuck and create chaos among us. I enjoy this site and I have learned a lot from other writers. I like that I have friends who have looked out for me, let me know that there are so called friends among us that choose to destroy our works. It is so sad that when ever there seems to be a place one can come and relax, mindless, thougthless individuals are always lurking ready to destroy. I have had my eyes opened to these culprits by a friend and I blocked them. (hopefully, as some of the features on here do not seem to be working properly).

Guess what I am saying and making a book of it, is this, shame shame shame, those who can't find joy in their existance and feel the need to create chaos.

Agreeing to your way of thinking, it should be the out pour of feelings not the worldly ratings.

Interesting. I'm new to the site, so I didn't know about stuff like it. Nice job on the sentiment, Tate, and as always your poetic ability shines greatly.

Volumes of truth here! It's really sad when your reviews given are in the hundreds and your reviews recieved are struggling to make it into the double digits.

"As a few of us have concurred that this is a social experiment." This is a very relevant statement presented here in the current Featured Review, engagement in any social interaction holds to the diversity of those that contribute. Internet relations are an experiment, we can present ourselves as anything and many do enjoy healthy friendships. Understand social necessities of respect and a regard for peoples beliefs and feelings. A few here are hiding their Identities, have multiple profiles and for them this social site is a game. I have idled my profile, maintain a few friends that I made a connection with and as a writer use my profile for editing and storage...

In a manner I found its pretty much all a game, few to none visit my page out of the 2oo some odd friends, over 800 read requests still there and climbing. I hit that top reviewer title, because I invested in the time to actually read and review friends on WC that are struggling to be writers. So out of the 800 read requests, how many returned the love, (as the saying goes here) not many, some may have come and read, as visits do still go up. I had some of the problems mentioned, and know who they are and even why they are doing it. Stupid really, as it has nothing to do with Writing and Art.

I'm a writer, an artist and a musician. My days are full, I have no time for games... this was a great site and well designed for its purpose. There may be no solution to this problem... because the administration on this site does not exist... what bothers me the most, are the predators that are here for the teenage girls. WC could go a long way if they limited one profile per member, but that won't happen... good luck WC. Nice I just earned 11 points, maybe I'll win a Coke.
