The Writers Cafe Virus

The Writers Cafe Virus

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Why is it we all tolerate what in real life we would not take The art of being someone’s friend just to use them for our own sake

"

When did we ever say that we

regulate anonymity

Nor wish it on another soul

to bestow mediocrity

This virus if allowed to grow

will infect each and every one

With the feeling of helplessness

hiding the dark within the sun

We lose good people everyday

tired of wondering on their friends

They will keep fleeing from this site

until this childishness here ends

I can't speak for everyone

but for myself I will say this

I would never let a nightmare

send me off to the great abyss

Why is it we all tolerate

what in real life we would not take

The art of being someone’s friend

just to use them for your own sake

If you can't find it in yourself

to be truthful open and kind

You are wrong simply to assume

that we are all deaf, dumb and blind

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
We all want the same thing here.To meet and share with friends. I say we stop tolerating this nightmare that never ends. Some will say I should not be so upset .Let it roll off.But I have never lain down for abuse. I would rather be knocked down.
A man can always take comfort
in the things he must abide
To look in the mirror fallen
taking resp-it from that he tried

Lately the bad actors are coming out of the woodwork and i am half tempted to open a site just to list each and every one of their names for the sake of the good people here.
Today one of these vermin trashed the work of David Lewis Paget. I say enough is enough! Even if it means we have to publicly out them !

Most know who the main problem is on here. Desbest said it well. For a while this virus was abated, but it is like Herpes and it keeps coming back. I have no problem blocking and ignoring, but it gets uncomfortable not knowing who you can trust. I just purged approx 75 people from my list of "friends." I will not leave because of a few trouble makers. As a few of us have concurred that this is a social experiment. Konsor lets anything go. Like Animal Farm or Lord of the Flies!

For every human being that reminds us what a fabulous idea it was to climb down out of those trees, there is always another that inspires the desire to climb back up there and hide from them. Online or off, there always seems to be one rotten apple to threaten the bushel. Guess it must be that "misery loves company" thing. That closing really says it all for me though, Tate. Excellent writing!

There is such an honesty about this piece, Tate, and I appreciate you sharing with us. I've been here now between three and four years, and though I've run across some hateful people, I've encountered some of the best in the world... you included. Appreciate you! I rate you 99 percent cos nobody's perfect...

Nice write Tate! I couldn't agree more with this poem. I wish that a certain person would just let the cafe rest. Not try and mess with writers and their work. Very immature!
I wish that some moderators would be on here, watching out for people like that.
So true, great write!

I agree although I have no idea what you all are talking about. I've been burned a few times in that I post something (not necessarily here) and then see it come back to life in some other person's name. True, the piece is sometimes even better than what I started with, but still... I was very surprised to see one of them here. However, that is a chance I take every time I choose to share. Hope all is better Mr. Tate. If not, you've said a mouthful in this poem.

Not sure what happened, tate, but it sounds distasteful. I have been away for a while and miss everyone. This web site does make one vulnerable and it is risky. But it has opened me up and now I am not afraid to share my work anymore as I had been in the past. I like this one line alot-

Why is it we all tolerate
what in real life we would not take
The art of being someone’s friend
just to use them for your own sake

that could be applied to so many scenarios. Once again, tate the great, you come off poignant and eloquent. Well done.

Amen Brother! Here is my stand on the matter:

"there's so much bad in the best of us,
and so much good in the worst of us,
that it would ill behoove any of us,
to talk about the rest of us!"

anonymous poet of antiquity

This is the type of philosophy that should be applied to reviewing and evaluating others work. Beyond that, i would concur that the primary motive is the experience and camaraderie, however; there are the younger members who seek role models and also valuable advice and mentoring, not to be forgotten as they are the future of our civilization in actual fact (Artists create the dreams that shape the future civilization). So to roll over and die, give up, or the like would simply be unimaginable. Every true leader has his adversaries and for that matter even heroes have lice! One has to be true to their own goals and keep their own council, follow his own advice, etc. So if I have to tolerate the odiferous air of the unholy in order to create and propagate civility and a renaissance of spirituality, so be it. rikk

well yes ... we are here to share and let our imaginations run... this site should be a world for poets and budding ones... and criticisms shall be there .. but must be in best interests.. otherwise the art you do gets stained ... we have a lot of different cultures interacting here.. and we must learn to be humble... and sensitive...
well kind of reminds me of Imagine by Lennon...
great write by the way... very true... and everyone can connect to it...

As flawed as this site is I owe alot to it. Like Heather D below, I didn't know how good I was until i got my first account on here(deleted that one a long time ago).I have met many talented and intelligent people on this site and much of my growth and development as a writer came from my interaction with them. I got my first publishing credit through a friend I made on this site.

But all the spam, worries about getting plagarized, and flood of random requests from people of dubious identity and trustworthiness has made this site really try my patience at times.

My relationship with this site is very much a love/hate one and I think alot of people on here will probaly agree with your sentiments. This site just needs better maintenance when it comes to spam and maybe some privacy settings as they have on other sites. Enjoyed the poem, well done Tate.

That's a good poem, Tate, and one we all can relate to. The problem is that we are all different and some have other problems than just reviewing. I am not leaving this site because, to me, it is a work site. and a place to let my mind wonder and think and dream. Without all the different elements, it would not be the same. Thorns have a purpose too, and God might put them here, for either their own benefit or in some way our own social disturbance. I am trying to be helpful to most of the souls I encounter here but might have failed in that regard. Words test the writer as well as the reader in that they reveal layers of fat as well as bone. Hopefully we will at least add something to the mental stew of a world of ideas, old as well as new.

Super write! I'm with you 100%! We are here to learn and grow as writers, and if we make friends alone the way that's even better. We all you be social and not trouble makers!
