Cradle of Humanity

Cradle of Humanity

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

How is it that the continent from which we all must have come Is only now finding freedom out from under a despots thumb

"

In the twenty first century

freedom looks to finally find

The cradle of humanity

come to test the ties that bind

How is it that the continent

from which we all must have come

Is only now finding freedom

out from under a despots thumb

We have surely come full circle

circumnavigating the world

Bringing us back where we began

while enlightenment is unfurled

The masses cry out for relief

they ache for the chance to breathe free

They want self determination

all deserve it as much as me

We lend our hearts to Africa

let them hear voices cry aloud

That they may know we weep for them

in suffering they may stand proud

May they find peace and freedom.

Oh my gosh, Tate. I could not love this piece more! Out of all the nations, Africa has a very special place in my heart. I came incredibly close to joining the peace corp several years ago because of my passion for the people, culture and what they suffer daily. What is sad, is the pictures we see in National Geographic, the images of crying children that flash across our television screens, is the truth. At times our eyes do not betray us and what is happening every moment in Africa lives with me. Illness, starvation, slavery, persecution, murder...the list goes on and on. Incredible poem, Tate. Really, really, really.

The message of the poem is a very important one, and the poem itself was very well written and creative. Nice job.

Very beautiful Tate. A really beautiful piece of writing. It is sad about the events that are unfolding in Africa. It's very heartbreaking to see our fellow humankind doing what is occurring over there. I'm glad that you wrote this poem to bring this to your reader's attention. Great job!

As usual a great poem!!! I just hope they dont turn out to be fundamentalist states like Iran. There the tyrant was the Shah, and what overthrowing him got us was the Ayatollahs...

I hope the peoples of North Africa make wise choices...

My roots were from the old Persia so I wasn't as far east as Africa,,but it is sickening to watch the crazy dictator giving his orders to bomb and shoot his own people..we all need to pray for all of these countries having trouble..lol and God bless..Katihe

We take so much for granted, rarely even thinking how lucky we are to have been born into freedom and liberty. As I have heard people complaining about how all the upheaval in the middle east/Africa will cause our gas prices to go up, I wonder at our self-involvement. It's not that I don't care about gas prices, etc., but seriously.....our petty problems can't be compared to what these people have endured! God bless them! Great and noteworthy piece Tate!!!

So heartfelt! Love the message of the piece.

"The masses cry out for relief
they ache for the chance to breathe free
They want self determination
all deserve it as much as me"

This is my favourite stanza. It really has that impact that causes an individual to go into a state of realization... Great Work! Adding this to my favourites... :P

Very timely, heartfelt, and written with compassion and wisdom. Great meter and rhyme too. It is sad that freedom tends to come at such great cost. Well done, my friend!
