Man

Man

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

By taking life what do we gain rendering us all one has owned Do we inherit sorrowed pain for our own failure to have grown

"

Many men awed by another

have then sought out their fellows land

Man shall turn brother on brother

to steal of him his woman's hand

How do we claim the virtue love

yet pray to our war in the same

We speak of peace from up above

then kill each other in his name

By taking life what do we gain

rendering all someone may own

Do we inherit sorrowed pain

for our own failure to have grown

I see good men, both meek and mild

but those who kill so needlessly

Take life of someone’s loving child

depleting all humanity

What will they say when we're no more

beware those who kill their own kind

We will become what all deplore

until only the wind you'll find

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
A simple note to mark the passing of the human race. If we continue to mortgage our children's futures, someday we will be a footnote to history.

"Careless of men are all the gods. Yet for this day of doom such vengeance have we reaped as deities!"

A moving piece and certainly one I agree with wholeheartedly though I do often ask myself what could occasion me to act in such a manner? For I do not believe that the actions of any one man or woman are unique to them, in the sense that they cannot be performed by another given the right circumstances. I suppose it stems from the fact that I cannot see any person, no matter what they have done, to be anything less or more than human; and thus no different, better or worse than myself.

Regardless of my musings a beautiful piece sir that communicates that sheer puzzlement and depression at our own inhumanity to our fellow man.

Thank you,
A.E.

You express the ravages of our times well here Tate. A very powerful and insightful piece. Love the photo. Tragic that we would sully our children's futures.

There's not one more against war then the one who's loved ones fight and die in them.

A very thoughtful poem highlighting the ultimate consequences of war. Nothing is gained when a life is lot.
Loved the poem. Loved the rhymes. You're an amazing poet. Keep writing! :)

My favorite stanza: How do we claim the virtue love
yet pray to our war in the same
We speak of peace from up above
then kill each other in his name

This has some power in it, for sure. It's incredibly thought-provoking, for me anyway. I enjoyed this read!
