Youthful Vision

Youthful Vision

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Our minds are what capture and keep good and painful thoughts that abound Should we choose to tolerate them bad times will be our only sound

"

Old years like waves broke on the shore

a burnt sky felt both dark and gray

The winds had howled so cold and long

my soul was beaten night and day

I wonder if there was a time

when I could have turned right not left

And in so doing change my fate

thereby saving this heart bereft

But those are thoughts best left alone

to think on when there’s nothing more

As now we have the blue-sky smiles

bright summer,  red eves to adore

I find they are just our choices

that is which times we think upon

To live in pain from days gone by

or within the light there-upon

Our minds are what capture and keep

good and painful thoughts that abound

Should we choose to tolerate them

bad times will be our only sound

For me I choose the bright sunlight

spring times when I was but a child

The favored memories of days

when I ran torrid, fast and wild

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I decided long ago that when the winds blew me cold and long. I would simply look within myself. For memories of days when I was sleek, fast and strong.

My man Tate...

"I wonder if there was a time
when I could have turned right not left
And in so doing change my fate
there by saving this heart bereft"

There was a time, and you used it wisely, as the "road" decision is part of all of our histories..Frost knew what road was best for him, and so did you..

"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

You are just "telling this with a sigh"..in this poem.
And I am glad to have read it.

The pen takes over for strong muscles, sometimes..and your pen is "sleek and strong"

I have certainly been in a place of late where I have so needed to look back upon "The favored memories of days when I ran torrid, fast and wild" Life is so simple, yet our very natures seem to want to screw that up for some reason.

Thanks for the thoughts. Nice work.

A good decision and a good place to be... sleek, fast and free.

"Our minds are what capture and keep

good and painful thoughts that abound

Should we choose to tolerate them

bad times will be our only sound"

I have been guilty of this .. so well written and wise are your words.

This touched me.. I felt the breeze of the inner words, meanings, fill my soul. Oh the joy we have when we can go back and reminisce on our past, the way we once were.. The cherished memories/feelings we once shared within ourselves always are a special hidden place for years later and you used yours to the greatest of feelings as in this piece. Once again, bravo!

This is beautiful Tate! I love the whimsy and lyrical quality of the verse. Life is all about choice...the scary part is hoping you make the right choice. But I suppose that's where you can't look back, chuck the bad choices from your mind and chalk them up to lessons learned. I love reflecting on my better days and do my best to avoid dwelling on moments of misery. Very inspiring and beautiful verse!

time's relentless heart beats on... and yet a small number seem to overcome it. in a simple choice. it's good to have people like you around, Tate.

It's not good to dwell in the past, though it's so hard not to do that. It's weird because if you regret something, you feel really bad, but you can also feel bad for having good memories you'll never have again, but you can't win.

I love this poem and I've favourited it.

Focus on the good memories because the bad one's bring us down but why is it we mostly focus on the bad? Wishing we'd done something different? Those are the ones we have to fight to get out of our heads all the time. This is really a fantastic poem, one well worth reading and learning from.

I always refer to it as my 'LightBody'.
Light as opposed to heavy, not to dark.

While this poem expresses a clear idea,
the words seem to have an air of unresolved things as well.
Which is always good in poetry.
