I decided long ago that when the winds blew me cold and long. I would simply look within myself. For memories of days when I was sleek, fast and strong.

"I wonder if there was a time
when I could have turned right not left
And in so doing change my fate
there by saving this heart bereft"
There was a time, and you used it wisely, as the "road" decision is part of all of our histories..Frost knew what road was best for him, and so did you..
"I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
You are just "telling this with a sigh"..in this poem.
And I am glad to have read it.
The pen takes over for strong muscles, sometimes..and your pen is "sleek and strong"
amazing poetry..happiness,peace,serenity and calm are all but a state of the mind..and in times of distress instead of hanging on to the pain we should all look within for the answers..welcome the goodness that life has to offer..loved the poem!
*sigh*
You write with very comforting words. I can probably get a restful sleep, I have been without books, ink and words...except fortune cookies. I need some poetry in my life, again.
"I wonder if there was a time
when I could have turned right not left
And in so doing change my fate..."
A thought provoking write - what if simply turning down another street one day could have changed where we have ended up now? How different would our lives be - better or worse...
But, as you say, these are thoughts better left alone - we can't constantly dwell on such thoughts - for if we did we would miss all the good things that are found where we are right now and possibly forget all the good things, the memories, of how we got to where we are - memories of growing up, times looked back on fondly....
No regrets, living in the land of "what ifs" keeps us from living in the now. There is always more life to live, even if that life is brief. Never miss today while revisiting yesterday.
well it would be hard to write a review as fine as ice has written. The whistley (only found in the Oxford unabridged under obsolete or archaic for the word "wistful" but i like the word-and its original meaning) aura of this poem draws in the nostalgic and sentimental, and i was caught with the rest of the fish in that net! You possess that fine quality of expressing feelings as they seem to us in our own inner heart and minds, whistley...the poignant sentiment balanced on the fine edge between mildly melancholy as just a touch of well-deserved self pity (but don't EVER overindulge!) and satiated content over those things that we know have passed but we have the fond memories. Tantamount to a poem by Tate Morgan
You do a good job, wonderful positive poetry, which inspires. We don't need repetitions of misery, personal experiences, seeing the glass half empty. We need positive examples and getting ignited by words like this which ease my day.
I adore poetry that can make me think about life, where I am and how I got here. What would have happened had I "turned right not left". But you are right, Tate. Those are thoughts best saved for a later time and until then we should live in "bright sunlight". A brilliant read that touched my heart. Reminding me of a time when there was nothing to tolerate, only an abundance of life to live.
