The Letter

The Letter

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I laid out the coin we minted within my hearts own treasury To toss about the thoughts we had of our own benedictory

"
My rendition of my loving wife
Rebecca and my first grandchild Payton, on her first day of life.

This my letter to you my dear

who have never written to me

I set before you my great hopes

of the dreams that may come to be

I laid out the coin we minted

within my heart's own treasury

To toss about the thoughts we had

of our own benedictory

You stamped this coin upon my soul

embossed with love of hope divine

Pressed in the mint of memory

you will age like the finest wine

Should you choose to ever leave me

may we find our lost love and stay

Like dreams we both had forgotten

from the hopes of our yesterday

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
I dreamed a dream that became Rebecca my wife. Herein lies the truth of a tangible life. Oh on our deathbeds will we look back and find the thing we cherished valued and loved was something we barely touched yet dreamed might touch us;that of the love of another unconditionally reaffirming our right to exist and reason to live.

ahh your subtle and clever "turn o the tongue" rings with the sweet music of the Irish laddie! You have that simple frank statement of the truths of life well honed, and it is a pleasure to read you Master Morgan.

The rhyming of this piece is what I like, and the structure of it

I know it's about time I got to reading your writing.
I got your messages but I never actually read them. it was the same with everyone else's, not just yours.

this is so cleverly metaphorical, with the minted coin and the treasury for a permanent kind of love.

True love is the kind where you accept everything, every single flaw your partner has, and you prepare yourself for anything happening.
I'd say that you've proved that you know true love by what you say in the last stanza.

Beautiful.

I am sorry for the late read, but I have been busy lately.

A very beautiful poem about a loving wife, something which is rare these days as divorces are as common as sweat shirts :S. I am very happy for your loving marriage Tate, and this is truly a dream come true.

Beautiful write my friend, A romantic poem that focuses on true love. The bond between two people that increases with time. A beautiful write about a beautiful subject, tate.

A beautiful heartfelt poem and so happy your dream came true in Rebbecca.
I love this stanza :

You stamped this coin upon my soul

embossed with love of hope divine

Pressed in the mint of memory

you will age like the finest wine

to stamp anything good on one's soul is a beautiful thing.

Peace

The richness of imagery here is very well done. The rhyming's smooth and firm, and this poem expresses beauty in simplicity well.

Just one thing- "you will age like the finest wine" seems to require a change. The rest of the poem has descriptions that are general; however, this description is specific, breaking the flow of the poem a little. That line is good, but it could be improved.

Thank you for sharing this poem with everyone.
