Payton and I enjoying the god given treasures of Love,Life,Laughter and family

 

Drink to mans lofty hopes my friend

think of ourselves as something great

Where we pretend starvation’s end

as beauties walk and watch our gait

 

Fill the glass and drink your repose

we were both good sinners as well

Living our lives as we suppose

one foot in Heaven, one in Hell

 

Wine is better for us than bran

it takes the bitter from the scorn

With each drink grows a bigger man

each bottle downed and one is born

 

We tipped the glass to innocence

as the light reflected each face

Circling embers in suspense

around the campfires of our race

 

So take the cheer and fill it up

as masters of the universe

And think it not on empty cup

nor to brothers with empty purse

 

May god forgive our foolishness

we talked of many things that night

But what we lacked was loves caress

and cheer of child within our sight

 

Thinking we were not life’s keeper

we never worried on their end

For why would we fear the Reaper

nor did we help a single friend

 

Don't wait till your life is all done

to learn the lessons of a fool

Know the rewards of self are none

where love of others is the rule

Author's Note

Why is it we strive for power over everything and everyone? Only to find in later life that we wasted much of our time feeding our vanity instead of our friends. May we all strive to know the feeling of love of ones nature instead of admiration and fear of ones finances. It is the love of your nature that will fill the hearts of others when they think of you. Those same people will always wish for your company and treasure your blessings upon them and theirs.

What a perfect description of the nature of man. It's funny. I am sitting in the bar my mother owns right now watching people drink. They drink to forget their troubles and the troubles of the world. They drink to forget for even just a moment about their wives and their kids. Some even drink because it is the only way they can calm down. Others, they drink just for the fun of it or to remember things of the past. And I just sit with my water or hot tea and watch them do it. I think of how I don't want to be like them. I don't want to forget. I want to remember the troubles and help fix them. Enough about me!! Great poem Tate, I always enjoy reading your work.

Thank you you make a good point and one i also agree with .I remember when my heart was broken and the doc wanted to give me meds to dull the pain. I said Doc i need my pain It is part of me now

Yes it is. You cannot run away from it. All you can do is distract yourself for a while with medication and alcohol. And even then, the distraction doesn't last long and the pain just come back even stronger. so I say forget the distractions. I just went through a break-up myself. It happens. You just need to find a healthy way to deal with the pain. And usually, that means just live your life. Do the things you love, don't isolate yourself, and surround yourself with people you love who love you.

time is truly the healer however i took up writing and the result is my 3 books and my works here

There you go. For me, I have many escapes. Music, art, writing... After my first boyfriend broke up with me, I wrote about a million poems. I'm not saying all of them were good, but it helped.

There is a reason that we are here on this earth. I'm not sure if learning how to be the best we can be towards our fellow man is the only reason, it however is a great start, and can do nothing but help future generations. I believe that there is something after this life. I believe as well that what we do here reflects on that life. I know there is so much more to say here, and that the few words you have written are so very much needed, and that this poem is very well put together, and were it not that we need to do so much more, this for now will have to suffice. This has a very important message and I am so glad that you shared this with me, I try so hard to be a good person and help others when they need it. I'm not rich by any means and I have children of mine to care for, but I will lend my time to watching others children for free, I help people around my place with food, and when they need someone to talk to they can come talk with me:)
This poem made me think because I heard myself saying some of these words myself, I have time, its not on me, etc... I wish all the time I would have done more or said more. I deffinantly want her to know how much I loved her even though I didn't show it in the end. We were fighting and I always told myself she has forever, so I would put it off and put it off; this time there was not another time, I lost her and didn't tell her everything I wanted to tell her. I suffer still to this day for being so dumb and not going to see her:(

Pax as you have seen on our death bead how many of us would trade all the wasted time we have had for the touch of a loved ones heart and a few moments to share the memories of our youth? No man on his death bed has ever said I wish I had worked more!

oh how i wish we could just simply trade it... all those wasted moments... that ends up to nothing... though we can never undo or take back those mistakes... all we could do is learn from it, a realization of understanding the past... that's how we learn and cope up to patch things up to make new beginnings... and lastly regrets come last yet i think it's never too late for us to work harder for the new today.
