Childhood Dreams

Childhood Dreams

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

If faith can move a mountain, then it can save a soul.

"

My granddaughter Payton. I bought her a new bear. She quickly took the green sweater off of it, put it on the old bear and cast the new one in the corner.lol She has my heart and well knows it. It's such a helpless feeling to be in her clutches.

If our faith can move a mountain

then it should save a soul

To have untapped faith in oneself

is life's great gift and goal

Within all children lay a dream

to be more than their parts

To open gifts within themselves

warming their tiny hearts

Ask a small child this question

"what do you want to be"

Always it's seems there's something grand

through their minds eye they see

So where do all the lost come from

who find their dreams have died

Then see their hopes all washed away

as if cast on the tide

No one can say with assurance

what happened to those souls

How all their dreams in life were lost

or for whom the bell tolls

If asked of me I would just say

truth is hard to admit

The mind is not a vessel filled

but a fire to be lit

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Who can say with any assurance that they know where their life will take them?
But like all of us I too had dreams. Maybe they were a bit lofty. Maybe they were naive. We all know the boundless wonder of becoming an astronaut or fearless explorer.
However the man who crushes a child's dreams may as well have killed him.
Forever is the innocence lost. Forever will he doubt the word of all adults. Lost is the beauty of divinity. Lost the love of fair play. Gone the reward for decency, never to return. This is why we must take our responsibility for the young as a most divine effort and solemn responsibility.

I wanted to cry reading this having been the child who had dreams crushed at a young age, and how wise you are, for the essence of a child must be protected, nurtured and loved, for their dreams build worlds, and you are clearly a man of deep emotion, and a wonderful father.........your words were beautiful, and if every child had a father like you this world would be beautiful. Bless you Tate, for your wisdom and writing.

So where do all the rest come from
those who find their dreams have all died
With all their hopes then washed away
as if they left out with the tide

Good work Tate. The subject is true as stated, dreams of children should be nurtured and cared for.
The structure of this piece is good as well; with the lines dividing, most stanzas being able to stand alone.

I second Charles's suggestions on word corrections...and the use of the second cliche (for whom the bell tolls)...it almost feels like it was put in there happenstancely, when everything else is very deliberate. The first cliche (moves mountains)...works I think...which is probably why it's used so often by people.

None-the-less, it was very enjoyable to read. Good parents keep this in mind when their kids tell them they want to be astronauts...or presidents.

Mine, the ever practical lot they are, want to be fire-fighters, teachers and social workers...they want to save the world in a small way. :) All good dreams to have.

oh this is lovely my friend..
i think all youth are born to a certain fate..they have certain strength and assets
to get along with ,they will try to reach every goal they see written for them ion sight
only life was not made to smile for all..it would try to trip them all now and then
will never let them see the end line, though it remains to few who are given the power
to get above all thats hard and and their goal they would reach no mater what
still left the weaklings i would call them ,they will never reach the end
its their line of life is to stop at some length and the never end their journey
thats life, some are made to reach to the end ,some will never do
i loved the thought behind this ,injustice in some way is always the rule
lovely write..

"To have great faith in oneself is life's sweetest gift and goal"
What more can be said? You've just made up your own quote.

Your poems speak alot of truth and make alot of sence.

"So where do all the rest come from"
That's right who knows? Who would know?
I've favourited it.

Very nice poem. I have been questionning myself alot on this subject lately. You are very right. Faith in ourselves and the beauty of life can be destroyed by others, especially when we were hurt as a child. Can those deep wounds ever heal ?
I am starting to feel that they can. And faith is the only key to that. Let go of the pain, and believe. This is what is helping me.
Very deep and important subject.
Thanks for your request to read it.

I consider myself lucky as I may have been the only one to limit my dreams , and I still do have my dreams. your poetry shines a light on the duty we have to keep dreams alive , in all children.

this is the essense of our being..we start will a blank canvas where the world is there to help us achieve all our ambitions..with the hope and faith that is given to us all..but we are tainted by the lost dreams of others, the can't do's..the grow ups of this world and little by little we are chipped into the people the world see us to be...not the true essense of who we are..and that is the secret of our existence..to know who you really are...what an immensely thought provoking and insightful poem
