Oh who can say what they would do if the winds had only blown them to distant shores. I wrote this of the dreams of another life not lived. I do not believe we are only able to love one person in life. I think there are thousands whom we might fall in love with if the time and place were right. It is the fates that leads us to our destiny. And this is just a thought on how life could be different if the winds had blown the opposite direction.

You, my dear, are a hopeless romantic; and I love it! It seems you like women as well as love them, this is a very desirable trait in the male of the species, and all too rare.
I believe you are correct, actually, I know you are correct, you can love more than one person. (Hopefully, not at the same time. LOL)
If circumstances had been different...
Things happen the way they happen...but if they had happened just a bit differently,
who knows?
Yeah, I think about these things, too...
Brilliant poem, Tate!

What a beautiful and sweet poem! These lines are a great way to encapsulate a perfect moment in time and make it last forever- you could look back on this in 10 years and still appreciate the bliss of that instant in your life

Just gorgeous Tate! I adore the imagery in this. I think your Author notes are very true too! Certain happenings in our lives make us choose one direction and had we chosen another, life would be very different.
Great poem and very thought provoking.

The theme is interesting. But for social restrictions, monogamy is unnatural for human beings. There are times when even married people may fall into somebody else-it may not be love but it may be attraction, infatuation or lust.Your poem is full of images and wonderful rhyme and rhythm

I agree Tate - there are certainly many wonderful people out there, and the potential for love is there... if the fates allow. Your poem speaks beautifully of this potential... a sweet dream not realized, but warm just the same. Your author's note reminded me of an old John Denver song, in which he says "I'd no more love just one kind of woman than drink only one kind of wine..." :)

Thanks rita I guess we all hold these desires inside and rarely allow ourselves to see them
This is quite fatalistic, where ifs buts and maybes can be used to remodel a past sequence of events and this particularly applies to love and relationships, it is hard to tell what we are supposed to be doing at any one moment in time...I think. There are so many crossroads along the way, each day we get the chance to turn left, right or straight on, to change our future path. It also seems that our lot hangs in the balance by such slender threads. I like this for its thought provoking effect and the way you are grateful for what happened to you, even the near misses, sorry Misses. Great going my friend, one of your best.
