I don't really understand what God's plan is in this regard, that our abilites and even our destinies seem to remain hidden from us in large measure (if not totally) until we are old, and, looking back, mutter, "Oh, yeah, there's where I shoulda..." I hear in this verse a certain degree of that wistfulness, that regret, and as might be apparent, I can identify with those sentiments completely. May I add here that your ability to render deep and complex thoughts in perfectly crafted rhyme and meter is such a rare ability here, and I commend you highly; it is what, in my not-at-all-humble opinion, changes a mere philosophical ramble into a poem.
I like this one a lot - the rhythm, the theme, the progression. I wish you'd do something about 'through beauties gaze' - I don't know whether beauty should be a plural, needs an apostrophe, or what exactly it means. As usual, you have a few 'inverted' sentences to force rhymes - I point this out because here the word order is such that the 'inversion' is not distracting (see: Rich did the spoils of time unroll - not bad form at all, though the inversion is there). Since you use at least one apostrophe, I'd say be consistent: empire's, friends' (or friend's depending on whether you want plural or singular), and time's. I can't say which stanza I prefer - they are all pretty good and follow one another in a tight sequence. Except for the few things I mention, then, i'll simply say Bravo!
aaaaaaaaaa , speechless, honestly, i've got no word to say because this what you wrote is a fact : the reality of life... the last stanza is splendid and breathtaking.... and i admire it
Those must of been hard and good days when men roam the world on ships. Life teaches us to appreciate the good things we have in a life. When we reflect on a life. We begin to be kinder and more quiet. A excellent poem.
