Drake

Drake

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

I grew weary of mans delight in watching his brothers endure I took no pleasure in gods sight his beauties had lost all allure

"

Drake and Dodger

To love beauty of pastured scene

as I would walk the path each day

To smell the wafting grasses green

remember where I use to play

In meadows I once lay my head

along beside the timeless brook

There I dreamed in my endless bed

until man's cruelty my dreams took

I grew weary of man's delight

in watching his brothers endure

I took no pleasure in god's sight

his beauties had lost all allure

Till the day I met Drake's gold heart

within him lay my own salvation

His love lent me a fresh new start

he is god's greatest creation

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
He is other than my own son the greatest
boy I have ever known.
In him I see a wondrous curiosity mixed in with mischievousness. He is Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn and Leonardo da Vinci all wrapped up in one little boy ! I might add he has put me in mind of a little Napoleon. He dreams of being king of the world someday soon. He says he might have to ban his mother from all of Christendom though. As she doesn't take orders well. We shall see who has the last laugh lol . Time will tell. But is it not from just such imaginings that empires rise, women swoon and dreams can come true? Possessed with the heart of a lion and the soul of a poet!!! I am proud to call him my friend and my Son!

Well surely you must know this touches me very deeply...remembering my only son whose life ended 5 years ago. The feelings I glean from your words express the same things I felt..and still feel, for my own son. Thanks for the memories Tate! ~Sharon

I can say I see some of those same traits now in my grandson, yet I know this is one of your tributes to your own child. I can see this clearly and feel your pride and love for your child in this work.

I would love to see your child if he is Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn and Leonardo da Vinci in one. He must be a legend. He must be beyond doing things that are then known as a classic. He must be such good a person that he comes out instead with the instant classics.

I like how children think so innocently about the world. That they think that they can do and be anything when they're older. When you ask them what they want to be when they're older, they express their answer with such enthusiasm like it's actually going to happen. Children with innocence are so different from people like us. They think they know it all.

Before I read your author's note, I liked how you explained how love for someone can change the direction of their life. It's nice to know that having children can provide a new slant to someone's life.

Amazing how such a little person can evoke so many emotions, this is heavenly and heartfelt...

Any boy would be fortunate, indeed, to have man in their life who loves them and who writes so brilliantly about that emotion. You are teaching a very valuable lesson, that is not just "okay" but wonderful to express how you feel about someone. Real men DO say "I love you." Fantastic!
