Foundations

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So each man will look back in time taking stock in the life he led To find if he is left wanting and for who and what he has bled

"

Tate

Heir to the dreams of this fathers heart,Tatertot.

Man can work sunrise to sunset

and thereby finding none of joy

Look far to the past for comfort

to the days when he was a boy

The pleasures come in kind smiles

confirming both field and station

Building along the path of life

friendships that speak to foundation

A native son of the Midwest

my life and soul are both free

What I wish to share with my child

is that sweet gift once given me

So each man will look back in time

taking stock of the life he led

To find if he is left wanting

and for who and what he has bled

Those times I see in my own child

of any things he missed there’s none

Creating dreams he’ll long cherish

watching him grow in Midwest sun

I often wish if only all children could be so blessed. To be shined on by providence. Born a native son to the Midwest.

I have to say, this is probably my favorite piece of yours. I didn't care about how it flowed or how all the words worked together because I feel how much each word, sentence and stanza meant to you. Beautiful!

life's lessons we learn will be passed onto our children, sometimes in subtle ways for sure, and sometimes drilled into their little hard heads, but they will learn or fall behind the rat race...

A happy childhood is certainly beyond price, because our lives unfold in relation to the experiences of youth. I was raised in England, and fortunate enough to have loving, caring parents. Your emphasis seems to be on the Mid-west, though I would argue that the place is of no consequence, whereas the love of parents is above all.

The love for your son is really apparent in this poem and you're clearly a very proud father.

The way in which you describe the way a man can work from sunrise to sunset without finding true reward really illustrates how important people are over and above our careers or station in life. This is particularly true with our children with whom we play such a formative role.

The Midwest theme that runs throughout this poem is something as a non-American I'm not aware of but the way you describe it with such positive words gives an impression of traditional values and a simple, less complex life than might be found elsewhere. Like a plant in perfect conditions you can spend time "watching him grow in Midwest sun" as if this on top of your love provides all the extra nurture he needs.

This is a very genuine poem and the personal touch of the photograph let's us see how intrinsically it is linked to your life.

Very sweet and beautiful poem. I really love the first stanza and especially these lines: "Look far to the past for comfort / to the days when he was a boy"

I am from the Midwest myself. Illinois to be exact so for me this is a poem that I can relate too and my son plays baseball which is always a great summer time joy for both of us. This poems flows smoothly like all your poems do and it is a wonderful poem about being a child and enjoy thing small, simple things in life.
