For My Child

For My Child

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

If insight be what you lack then son take it all from me I shall give it to you freely in hopes that you may see

"

Tatertot

If insight be what you lack

then son take it all from me

I shall give it to you freely

in hopes that you may see

If love is what you should seek

what tales my heart might tell

It has known heights and depths

of the soul as deep as a well

If I could grant precious wisdom

to enlighten your fair sight

I'd say play with your children

teach each how to fly a kite

But learn these old lessons now

while I am here that you might see

For the day will sometime come

when my light shall cease to be

That eve my heart be silent

its music shall play no score

The mind will  go dusk quiet

to be heard from never-more

But heard next day the singing

will float out above the din

The Caroling Angels call

beckoning me to come back in

On that distant fateful morning

I'll stand before them to say

" I washed my soul with happiness

then taught my son to play"

A very nice dedication to your beautiful son. We should all take heed and play a tad more and work a tad less. We are but a grain of sand on life's beach; washed away before we know it. I liked this very much, Tate. Heartfelt, warm, and loving.

The last 2 lines are incredibly beautiful. This is another very tender and wise poem; preaching, yet teaching with a knowledge it need not prove. For the evidence emanates from within the love each word is sugared in.
The only small thing I found even slightly imperfect was that the last line of the penultimate verse didn't quite scan with the same precision as was afforded the other lines. Nothing much though.

PS. You must have such a handsome family !!

"I washed my soul in happiness
then taught my son to play."

Brilliant line.

This is full of very lovely thoughts. I enjoyed reading it.

Very sweet, though I thought the "thee" thrown in there was a bit random, even if you did want to keep the rhyming.

This had a much more personal feel to it. I loved it! Not enough parents really spend time with their kids these days. Most feel the have "better things to do" and simply don't have time. If you teach your children to live and play and be happy I think that's wonderful!

This was really deep and a great tribute that is amazing to read coming from a father. Really sweet photo that brings back memories of playing super hero games with friends and off alone. I think this one is awesome because everyone can relate to so much you have here. You are blessed to have such a bond with your children.. which clearly rings out in your writings!

Very touching.

I'm sure when your son is old enough to understand this, it will bring tears to his eyes.
Beautiful.
