Remember Me

Remember Me

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

When April swells the marshes The red winged birds will know

"
Uncle Ben
Uncle Ben

Remember me as I was then

not like you see me now

The laughing carefree way I stood

too towered and taught to bow

The happy young man you once knew

who's eye's were clear and bright

Played together each day in the sun

danced alone in the soft moonlight

Rather you see what I was then

than what I have become today

A warm heart who loved you so

with the strength of fire to play

When April swells the marshes

the red winged birds will know

To pipe these two words lightly

to all the winds that blow

The trembling stars of the night

once bold bright shining too

Turn their heads from me now

as I do now from you

YOU will be remember to all that cherish you. To all those whose lives you've touched and all who have reached out to you. To remember you would bring us all joy as reflecting on who you have been to each of us your light will remain as bright as it has always been... No matter when we met you, no matter how long we've known you, the soul of you remains as pure as goodness gets. No matter what mistakes have ever led you astray, those were lessons, the growth, instilling the very goodness in the Man you are today.
Your words are strong with emotion and hope as you express the hope of how you wish to be remembered. As always such a soothing flow. Another great poem Tate!
You know I had to add my 2 cents. lol

There is a wistful tear which falls at the memory of the thing one used to enjoy as a child, the falling rain, the flame salamanders of a fireplace, the action of simply running through tall grass or searching hours for a few, sweet berries. A small part of each adult wishes to be remembered thus.

This is a good poem about being remembered... I've often wondered about that remembering, though, and why so many people yearn for it to be remembering the long-ago person instead of the current one (look at obits in the newspaper and see how many are of really young people (the pictures) who passed on in their 80's or 90's - well, grandma would never want her current picture in the paper. I say we are who we are at the end and that's the way I want to be remembered. The poem itself flows quite easily off the tongue, but I do think the first and third stanzas say pretty much the same thing. The best part of the poem starts with the fourth stanza. In fact, the fourth and fifth stanzas would make quite a remarkable poem by themselves - a very Dickenson-like poem full of imagery and imagination. It's almost like the first three stanzas and the last two were written at different times. The meter and impact of the last two stanzas is really profound. :-)

Poem is beautiful. I remember my grandfather words everyday of my life. He stood tall and never was hard on no-one. He will be remembered because I act and talk like him now. I like this poem. Your poetry always leave me with something to think about.
