Why Me?

Why Me?

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

What have I learned in my trials so far

"

Scout and I

What have I learned in my trials so far

I think all I need know for now

Been broken, tattered and forlorn

then beaten and made to bow

With time our life so gives

then alongside it must take

Carving character as it goes

a better man of us will it make

As I no longer ask the question

God traded me wisdom for truth

Teaching me the meaning of life

in exchange he took my youth

But would we go back, Tate? It's nice to think that a second crack at youth would be nice, but not if we had to forgo the lessons we've learned on the journey. You have the gift of making the reader stop and consider your poems in the light of their own lives, and this makes them truly worthwhile.

I like the last stanza most. I think you should experiment with another style though

Yes, we can't win. Idiot wild youth and then wise old men, too tired to do much.

Age teaches us to appreciate the simple thing in the grasp of our hands. A excellent poem with a very good story. Thank you for the beautiful poem.

I love those lines. How true. It's a shame so many young folks won't listen to the experience of those older. Then maybe they'd have the best of both worlds. A beautiful piece.

"Time renders age to the learned,
and takes the moment away from Youth; stolen
by ignorance to the depiction of life."

Nice read!

As I walked the long winding road
that led away from there to here
I find I am no different than most
that have held their own soul so dear

It's comforting to know there have been others before us. I liked the rythme and rhythm. Nicely done.
