Soul Mates

Soul Mates

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So many lifetimes come and go between ill spent youth and the grave Hopes and dreams of generations Are the memories we all save

"

How many times have I met you

in the strangers that passed me by

Were you the one that touched my coat

the friend that once kissed me goodbye

How often have we stood in line

just to watch loved ones go to war

Then brushed away the tears of hope

as they ran off to join the Corps

Were you the one whose heart had ached

when my ship drifted out to sea

The foundered soul whose anchor broke

the one whose dreams had yearned for me

Are we destined to always be

just passing strangers in the night

Whose ebbing flowing tides of love

never met when the time was right

So many lifetimes come and go

between ill spent youth and the grave

Hopes and dreams of generations

hold the memories we all crave

Perhaps I'm just the little child

with a heart that once broke in two

Who walks the well-worn streets of old

searching for memories of you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Don't we all wonder if another is the one for whom we were meant?
How many lifetimes must we pass by before our soul finds it's hearts desire?
This was for the green eyes cased in Honey Hue, that I once knew.
May she find this dream to be her own .

This piece simply makes me swoon in the ideals of such times. This is by far, one of my favorites. Tate, you have donr it again, made me simply have to stop and stare at the beautiful scene you have laid out here. "Are we destined to always be,
just passing strangers in the night" Even for a moment to pass by one so precious, it would be worth a lifetime. I can nearly hear the brass band in the distance.

This is a wonderful piece of writing exploring the what if's that cross all of our minds now and again. At times we can only hope that we do find these answers and at times we can only hope they perhaps they will find us.

That's my favorite. Speaks to me personally. I love it.

This carries such sentiment with it, should be a love song...I often wonder if we have more than one soul mate in this world, and or if we've passed them by some time during our lives...food for thought, lovely, just exquisite. It's a perfect write.

This piece is amazing, i have often had siimlar thoughts about the lives we leave on touched on ur day to day journeys, merely by a mis-matched time. I was sitting here the whole way through this feeling ever sentance , so briliantly and wonderfully described.

This is absolutely beautiful! And yes I do wonder if I pass the "one" walking by. I also wonder if there can be more than one soul mate for a person. I had a soul mate early in my life, we grew up together and shared many things that seemed to span a life time of love, sorrow and life. And he passed away, when he did I felt as if a piece of my soul went with him. He knew me better than anyone on earth. Yet I have to believe that there is another, out there - somewhere, maybe as you say passing by, a friend, or someone who doesn't know yet.
I love this piece because it reminds me of a time set back long ago, and the picture you have to go along with it, fits perfectly. I do crave the memories of one, one true love. Thank you for sending this to me. Also love the song.

Another read at this .... 2 years later... And I have so much more experience in life in regards to people meeting/befriending, therefore my view, doesn't change but rather adjusts to a different level leaving my opinion the same but wondering if one should 'make do' with the place they are in or go searching for a supposedly paradise unknown. Whatever decision we make we must deal with the consequences accordingly... Maybe best to 'stay put' for some... Although one could spend a lifetime wondering!!
Thanks again dear friend

Poignant write the search for the one true love , some find it some wait life times and maybe some just miss the chance. The first and last stanza soul stirring.

Another piece of perfection--something I hope to someday be able to achieve. Personally, I don't believe in soul mates, but this poem still warmed my heart and made me smile. Beautiful, Mr. Morgan.

Aha, do I detect shades of Ishtar here, Tate? The everlasting search over incarnations for that meeting, timed to perfection. I always pondered that one myself. Nice job.
