Soul Mates

Soul Mates

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So many lifetimes come and go between ill spent youth and the grave Hopes and dreams of generations Are the memories we all save

"

How many times have I met you

in the strangers that passed me by

Were you the one that touched my coat

the friend that once kissed me goodbye

How often have we stood in line

just to watch loved ones go to war

Then brushed away the tears of hope

as they ran off to join the Corps

Were you the one whose heart had ached

when my ship drifted out to sea

The foundered soul whose anchor broke

the one whose dreams had yearned for me

Are we destined to always be

just passing strangers in the night

Whose ebbing flowing tides of love

never met when the time was right

So many lifetimes come and go

between ill spent youth and the grave

Hopes and dreams of generations

hold the memories we all crave

Perhaps I'm just the little child

with a heart that once broke in two

Who walks the well-worn streets of old

searching for memories of you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Don't we all wonder if another is the one for whom we were meant?
How many lifetimes must we pass by before our soul finds it's hearts desire?
This was for the green eyes cased in Honey Hue, that I once knew.
May she find this dream to be her own .

This piece simply makes me swoon in the ideals of such times. This is by far, one of my favorites. Tate, you have donr it again, made me simply have to stop and stare at the beautiful scene you have laid out here. "Are we destined to always be,
just passing strangers in the night" Even for a moment to pass by one so precious, it would be worth a lifetime. I can nearly hear the brass band in the distance.

I think that we all, from time to time, find ourselves pondering this very question. Did we miss out on our soul mate because we turned left instead of right? For myself, I believe that there are an infinite amount of 'soul mates' out there for everyone. I think the criteria for what makes one so is dependent on where we are in our lives. I am sure people have differing opinions on this topic.

All that said, I liked your poem. I thought it flowed nicely, and I really liked the WWII era feel of it. I picture my grandparents as I read along. It actually made me smile, even though the theme is highly contemplative, if not a bit sad.

Well done, Tate.

This is really really good... I really liked this poem when you sent it to me... And I understand it perfectly. It made me wonder and think...Not many poems can do that to me...I loved this..

Well done. And yes, I often think along such lines, and make it a point to speak to people whose eyes seem familiar, even if I only ask the time, or make a comment on their appearance. I would hate to miss an opportunity that presented itself right in front of me.

Great work!

Oh Tate! As time passes and as I go on reading one after the other, all pearls from ur writings... I feel I am blessed!

Lines that I feel so much in pain on reading... that are so much overflowing in the meaning, the poem tries to convey...

"Are we destined to always be
just passing strangers in the night
Whose ebbing flowing tides of love
never met when the time was right"

"Perhaps I am still the little child
with a heart once broken in two
That walks the well-worn streets of old
searching for memories of you"

This reminds me of the poetry I use to write in 2003, because back then I was actually in love, and almost married. Since then I have met nothing but duds, but with him I thought we were soul mates. What a beautiful idea, I am glad you wrote about it.

I certainly believe in the concept of soulmates and destiny..nothing is co-incidence in this world. I'm a firm believer of that.
You have conveyed that concept of soulmate so beautifully and without any flaw here.
The poem is so beautifully written that any reader can easily fall in love with it.
Great work here.

Ps, if you haven't then read the book "Only love is real by Dr. Brian L Weiss", the poem goes very well with the plot of that book.

Wow, I cant even begin to describe how much I enjoyed reading this one. It's really something that speaks to us all. The last stanza is one of my favorites.

Ya know, It still amazes me how you're able to capture thoughts so well in few words and lines...

Oh Sugar this made me cry.... You soooo deeply touched
my soul with this one.... I could not have spoken my
own heart any better than you did here...
