Poetry

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Poetry and I laughed to see what with her beauty she had done We sat under an umbrella while we both waited for the sun

"

Poetry had once walked with me

held to my heart when I was sad

Helped me mend from the pain I penned

brought comfort to sorrows I had

Poetry watched my heart shiver

gave me a blanket for the cold

Held my head while lying in bed

made me wish to live to be old

Poetry then danced the night away

to entertain this sullen heart

Both cried to the tale, I tried

from life's wisdom she did impart

Poetry was my only friend

as rain poured upon hallowed dreams

Lessened the toll on my soul

lent me comfort or so it seems

Poetry offered me her hand

as we danced around the pouring rain

Washing away in just one day

what poison wreaked from months of pain

Poetry and I laughed to see

what with her beauty she had done

We sat under an umbrella

while we both waited for the sun

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
My darkest days were comforted by the poetry they inspired.
One of my favorite poems is this one. It tells the tale of how pain is so relative to our age and circumstance
Softened by Time's consummate plush,
by Emily Dickinson

Softened by Time's consummate plush,
How sleek the woe appears
That threatened childhood's citadel
And undermined the years.

Bisected now, by bleaker griefs,
We envy the despair
That devastated childhood's realm,
So easy to repair.

Such a strong dictation of what poetry means to those who create it. Completely the truth, the comfort and joy of such a thing that we may give birth to that shall never judge us, ever. In a world where nothing makes sense, we can create a map through our words and be cradled by our emotions. Bravo!

It's the best therapy in the world. The more we bottle up, the more we suffer. I love to both write and read poetry; always will, it's the perfect catharsis.

Poetry has been my own therapy it brings out the best in me thank you
Tate. You have touched a nerve here. I wrote my first poem when I was eight and cannot imagine being unable to express and convey the very innermost thoughts that come to my mind.

No matter the 'skill', what counts is what the heart says and what the pen translates.

Thanks Cassie It certainly has played the part of friend to me
"oh how i wish that it would rain"

and rain poetry----i so relate to this, Tate.

Poetry personified as the only friend----when all else let me down, poetry was always there for me---for all of the 45 years i have been writing it....i would not have survived without it.

great piece....

It has done nothing but rain where i am this year. I kinda wish the sun would come out thanks jacob
I found this poem to be quite amazing and distinctive in many ways. The way that you personified poetry all throughout the poem in order to describe those who have helped you in life is very creative, and even more relatable for many writers who read this. I know I haven't reviewed anything of yours in a long time, and I apologize for that, but upon reading this piece here, I was reminded of why I see you as an A-rank writer on this website. The passion and care you put into every single piece of writing you create is admirable and impressive, since it is something that can easily be lost without us even realize this(I've realized this the hard way, and still haven't been able to rediscover my passion for writing). It's one thing to be a pro writer on a technical level, and it's one thing to be a pro writer on a creative level, but to be a pro writer in both areas is to be a cut above the rest, and that is what you are Tate. :)

I see that poetry has brought you great solace during trying times...The poems we write, the stories we tell, the words – they are our friends and our children and our strength. And when everyone else deserts us, and when everything crumbles, they stand by our side holding our hand. A wonderfully crafted poem, Tate! A poem that speaks to the heart of the writer :)
