Foolish Pride

Foolish Pride

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

What frail creatures we men are; made from sinew, muscle and pride.

"

What frail creatures we men are

made from sinew, muscle and pride

Thinking we can conquer the world

for the woman who sits by our side

All is brash, gall and bravado

with such a carefree debonair

Taunting those who test our mettle

intimidating all who dare

A young man thinks himself gifted

to hold sway and folly so near

Injure his pride and you will find

that he becomes someone to fear

A man is nothing without pride

it is the food that feeds his soul

Desired respect of fellows

becomes his sole life’s aim and goal

The handsome woman of his dreams

is she that realizes this flaw

Playing to his strength and weakness

by pretending she never saw

To that woman he grants comfort

strong arms forever hold her tight

Their truth of heart is not broken

whenever she is out of sight

The reason men are unfaithful

they behave only by your side

Has little to do with temper

and everything to do with pride

If you wish for a happy home

a man who's strait forward and true

Then play host to his foolish pride

and he will be loyal to you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
It is almost comical to me just how naive we men are about our own weakness. So I wrote this for the women to understand what it is that drives men. For the men this is no surprise it is what men are taught from cradle to the grave.

Most enjoyable. Simple but great wisdom. I confess I am full of P. I agree it can be a flaw, but it is also perhaps what makes us exciting, what drives us on. Cruel Life demands that we win, win, win. Maybe pride is a sort of oil in our cogs. What are we without it? As ever balance is all though. Too little and we are inert, too much and we are insufferable.

This was really well written and pride is certainly at the heart of every person these days.. each man is truly a unique individual.. alot depends on how he is raised! This one sounds as if it may be true to your heart.. and some of those close to you. If a man is not raised with pride... he has low-self esteem.. boasting is then done for gain alone. I have to admit.. I do not like a bragger or liar.. but understand there are good lies in life.. and lifting another can be a great form of love.. as long as it doesn't lift them so high that they are not crushed with reality.

Pride is something all people must try to suppress .. or get carried away.. lies are facades that peal away over time.. leaving a man to look a fool in the end! Yes a woman could boost that.. but then when the curtains pull away.. they are both left looking like fools.. at the bottom of a ladder! In the sense of filling a man's pride.. do men truly want to be built up by a woman and lied to to raise their spirits? They shouldn't be put down or beaten down.. just admired for their strengths and weaknesses.. accenting the strengths of course. This was really good though.. and very realistic of what many men and women feel.. though it's the same word "pride" that always causes them injury and insult possibly in the end! Being humble is so much more charming.. but with a dash of pride... everything is good in moderation!

A well-constructed piece which came off as honest without strings of 'cheese'; appropriate accolades be due you.

The first few lines brought another literary quote to mind:

"Yes, vanity is a weakness indeed. But pride-- where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation."

I really agree with all you said, men think they are made of iron metal
they can conquer the world..but really they are just like babies
I think women are far more emotionally stronger..
and they can endure the blows of life much better than us men
and pride comes first to us ,means a lot, even foolish pride
women who understand that, they will work as if we are without any fault
here they can win us all,we will love her to eternity as long as she admires
our foolish pride..i think most women know that and act accordingly,ha ha
they know exactly how to win a man heart..they came to know that so well
how you tell it so well my friend, great analyses of relations between he and she..
really enjoyed this ,ha ha
lovely write..

Hmm. This is interesting. Personally, I don't do that. I don't want a man who is boastful and has such great pride that his ego is huge. I think men are actually stronger when they are not afraid to show emotion and such, because all humans have emotion. It is just natural. I don't like to be overly impressed or treated like I am high and mighty.
Aside from that, this is really well written and the rhyming is outstanding. I also really like your diction.

Huh.... This is pretty epic.
I never thought about it that way. I suppose I've learned a thing or too about the other gender.
Hee hee! Thanks for the awesome wisdom!
Keep up the good work!

Very well written poem. And so true and insightful.
Men and women ought to remember these truths
and that why they can be happier together, giving
each what they need. That holds true in men
trying to understand and love women as well.
Give each other what we need to stay in love
with each other.

Great poem. I really like it a lot.
